Description
And now for something a little different... some Rock. My attempt to capture some of that late sixties, early seventies rock sound. Whether I succeeded, well... What influences lurk Incognito?

A fast pace tune with vocal harmonies and plenty of guitar riffing here and there. Still breaking in the Les Paul...

Lyrics
Tell me baby, where do I stand?
And if you do then I will.
I'll tell you secrets you'll understand
Of a love that will thrill.

Dreams to dream another day
Words unspoken no more
Hardly find the time to say
What these feelings are for.

Tell me girl, where have we been?
Can't walk back through that door.
We might try to enter in
What we had before.

Wooden moments underplayed
Walking back that tune.
Final curtain as they say,
But no one leaves the room.

Jam Band Rock
This definitely has the flavor of the freaky sixties Airplane-Dead-Country-Joe style.

Cool stuff

I can hear the ocean
Can you hear the ocean waves here? Like in some songs by David Crosby you can hear the long waves lifting the boat, and at the same time the smaller ones rocking it. That's beautiful and a very atractive quality of music. I can also feel the breeze, but I don't know if that is by help of my imagination...

Hey Chris...
Time warp... now that does describe my music bent. I really do like this Les Paul. It's very easy to move about the fret board and like everyone says... it has a great sound. Thanks and Hi ho!

You and Les
make a cool combination. I really like the lines: "Tell me baby, where do I stand?
And if you do then I will." Nice riffs, and the long note was a perfect ending. It sounds like you're having a lot of fun in the studio. Most of all, it's sweet to hear a song about a love that endures throughout a lifetime. Rock on! :-)

Hey Roxylee...
The lyrics... boy I threw them together rather quickly. I actually had another verse in mind with the word "incognito" in it, but already had this version set down... so what the heck. I like your interpretation on the content of the lyrics... I really hadn't given it much thought but "your story line" makes sense.

Thanks,
Jack

british rock...
That's the sound I had most in mind with this tune. Glad to know you hear also. Les Paul... what a treasure to music and guitars. That must be a great exhibition to attend. Thanks for stopping in.

Ok....
Now you've gone there. My working title on this song was "Clapton Rock". And I did have Cream in mind, especially on the refrain harmony parts. So there you go! or I go... Cream got so much mileage out of a guitar, bass, and drums. Of course look at who were playing those instruments, eh?

Thanks Jack.

The rhythm section made me think of The Jefferson Airplane. So I guess you succeeded in capturing that late sixties vibe. I can see the go-go dancers.

Well call me wasted...
but I thought I heard some Moody Blues influences. Isn't it amazing that this tune "sounds like" so many different 60s/70s groups according to the comments above.
Whatever, cool tune, Jack. Far out man ;-)

well that would be the appropriate genre for any sixties/early seventies rockers. I'm loving all the references, though they be much too generous of connections. Thanks Richard. Far out and further in...

strange brew
i had to throw that out there, because like it does have cream style. super nice!
a paisley nehru jacket, frilly, puffy shirt and a perm and you would easily make into a cream cover band.

way to be Jack! keep on truckin"

ah, love that strange song. I was never a puffy shirt kind of a guy, nor a perm kind of a guy... but I was known to where a paisley shirt every now and then! Thanks for the nice words.

Great Sound
Warm and fine. For sheer breadth of intent and wide-ranging acceptance of all types of music, the late 60's/early 70's is THE era. (Puts our current, pallid 'performers' to shame, doesn't it?)

Anyway, I love this. And this type of song suits your vocals really well; I hope we hear more like it.

Love,

MoM

Still rocking ...
... after all these years! I'm hearing a very Stills sounding lead and vocal Jack. Vic referred to a Cream style, which I hadn't noticed until I read Vic's post - I think it's the harmony part that does it - definitely there.
Cool "take me back" post Jack.

Still rocking....
... better to rock away, then rust away. Hey Neil... Stills eh? Don't hear me complaining. But as you well know, there are so many sub-conscious influences for those of us who went through that 60s-70s era.

Always nice to have a "take me back." And always nice to have your comments... Thanks.

the les paul is really a pleasure to play. As far as the sound, aside from the guitar itself, the Roland Micro-Cube has some nice settings for some classic sounds. Nice way to record.
