Description
Another collaboration with the Missus. I was messing about with an alternative tuning on my guitar ( the G is tuned down to F sharp) and came up with a few chords and the tune all came together and the Missus said she had some words that might fit..and they did. Took me about a week to get it all together which is quite quick ...for me.
The words are about people who really walk away from everything.
Hope you like it.
may thanks to Ben Boldt for his vibraphone preset

Lyrics

we gathered here today with your life in words and pictures
the spectre in your home has driven you away
tipped out onto the street so you have kept on walking
we didn’t see you leaving though we knew you couldn’t stay

the days are getting colder, we often think about you
we wonder of you’ve found your peace without a place to stay
we think you should keep walking, you dare not think of stopping
the spectre’s just behind you, you will not get away

you spoke about the menace and how you couldn’t stand it
we took you to the doctors but they couldn’t tell you why
a heavy soul will hold you in its grip if you allow it
so you knew you must keep moving and you couldn’t say goodbye

the days are getting colder, we often think about you
we wonder of you’ve found your peace without a place to stay
we think you should keep walking, you dare not think of stopping
the spectre’s just behind you, you will not get away

a journey with a purpose but one without an ending
it’s nothing that you’re leaving, there’s nowhere you should go
the rhythm in your head obliterates the noises
we are the thing you ran from and why you had to go

There's a lazy dreamy Beatle vibe to this. Nice melody.

Great set of lyrics
Yes, it does have that sort of Beatlish feel but I'd say more Lennon than the Beatles.

Nicely put together and quite hypnotic.

Cheers

Lazy Dreamy Vibe
Exactly what Andrew said.

Nice guitar tones and another great vocal performance. Smart bass playing and a good use of the strings. Sounds very natural and it makes for a really good production.

I like the vibes at the end. Adds to the dreaminess of the tune.

I like Queenbee's writing. You two are meant to bee.

She's my honey that's for sure ;-)
her words just fitted perfectly.
I did another strings section on the chorus and then realized it was an Auteurs song I'd unconsciously channeled into mine so I just kept it simple in the end.
The vibes were nearly a flute solo but I was persuaded to change it to the vibraphone
anyway, thanks for popping in and glad you liked it
cheers

I agree with the others on the Beatles reference. Nice guitar lines and tone. Laid back vocal fits the mood of the piece. I like the change of pace on "you will not get away" good point to emphasize and resolves the chorus musically. The lyric resolves nicely in the last verse.

thanks dave
The lyrics just fitted perfectly.
I didn't have to change a word..apart from using the 3rd couplet as the chorus.
Hadn't thought about it sounding like the Beatles but it does have echoes of them come to think about it.
Glad you liked it and thanks for dropping in

Excellent writing!
This song has a good arrangement and has a nice laid back feel, great vocals and I like the guitar breaks.
Interesting to read how the song came together with your altered tuning, your guitar has a nice tone and your playing is great. I enjoyed this very much.
Thanks for the download.

laid back
Anymore laid back and I think it would have fallen over.
I can't remember how I came about the tuning. I think I was just messing about seeing if it worked or not.
Anyway, thanks for your comments and glad you liked it
cheers

Knew they'd mention Lennon
Much like his solo stuff, which I enjoy very much and am very influenced by it.

This well put together and quite an enjoyable listen. Wish there was more of this style around here. Sounds "real", if you know what I mean.

Rea Good
Nice job. i hear more of Chris Rea than John Lennon in the vocal style and laid back power of the rhythm? The lyrics are very much in the bluesman's canon, too? Enjoyed it like a cool, moody drive in an Aston Martin (i wish!)

Thank you for the trip!

Nice
Cool bass line. Perfectly suited vocal. Love the progression and instrument tones. Really like the neat little touches, what was that instrument that can be heard joining in at about 1m26? (plucked fiddle?) whatever it was I thought it was ace!

Definite Beatles vibe,
but something else too. Well composed and performed. Love the production elements and choices too. I think that is where the Beatles vibe lays. Well done.

nice tuning...
I like working with alternative tunings. This is nice. Vocal melody seems to grow right out of the chords. Great guitar sound. Kudos to the Missus. Lovely lyrics. Real good song!

I will cherish this song forever.
I feel CBGB Velvet laced with country air in the opening chords, and it feels like an old friend calling. And I think some of the "Beatle references are to Dear Prudence." But never mind, there's so much more intrinsic ti your own craft here.

When your vocals come in, I melt into the woods past that aural (and photographic) doorway you present. But alas, the "nature" in this song is all about human nature. A tidy perspective of how we can't escape the weight of reality no matter how we might want to run. The lyrics are so touching, and your vocal and musical rendering is so on-the-mark, I have no recourse but to download and love this song forever.

Nice Piece
Your lyrics are revealing, I could interpret reflection and remorse in the versus. Pretty song.

The orchestral instruments go really nicely in this song.
Where the vibraphone comes in towards the end I could imagine a cello solo.

Tasteful
I agree about the Beatles tone of the production. I was sort of expecting the vocal to go up an octave (or something) and get loud at the end which may have suited "the rhythm in your head obliterates the noise" line. But just as it is, I enjoyed this one!
