Lyrics
Dreaming the way I do sometimes. [August 2010] [Bb]

You may not understand and even may not be aware I could be dreaming,
The way I do sometimes,
We could fly away from here and drive across the universe tonight,
Turn the volume down to low, you can sit and watch the show,
Heaven’s open every single day.

The pillars of creation take your breath and make you think you must be dreaming
The way you can sometimes.
Looking down in judgement I think sometimes that they almost seem to smile,
What a night to take a ride, you can travel far and wide,
Any place you say you want to see.

Fallin’ like a snowflake in a breeze, warm within and trying not to freeze,
Back to earth and slowly to return, failing but I never seem to learn.
Drifting free of gravity we glide, deep inside the universe we’ll hide,
Taking time to cross the sky at night, hadn’t planned to stay but I just might.

Break

What a night to take a ride, you can travel far and wide,
Any place you say you want to see.

Moving like a shooting star, effortless and light with such a feeling
You get sometimes and I.
Know that there may come a time when you may try to run away and hide,
Paradise is put on hold, images begin to fold,
Heaven’s open every single day.
Heaven’s open every single day

Very Creative
Love this piece. Your phrasing is complicated and very interesting, and the harmonies are supercool. You've taken a pop song and tilted it on its side. I'm impressed. Thanks for posting.

Dreaming
Super cool and sui generis. Love that "pillars of creation" line. Melody is wonderfully whack carnival ride. The break reminds me of Nina Rota (Fellini's compser) This is totally original and fab.

John, thank you
this started out as an exercise in writing horizontal music but got a bit out of hand and ended up as a pop song. Above all I beieve all songs should attempt to be accessible and honest. Thank you for your kind words.

Tangoed again?
A twisted latin take on this John and it sounds really good.

Rhyhmically complex, interesting lyrics and a splendid performance.

What's not to like?

Cheers

Hi Dick and thanks
I think it's those pushy eights I often use that give it a sort of Latin feel. Glad you like it.

dreaming
Starts off sounding like Supertramp being hit round the head with a cushion..and then goes off into a whole new territory.
The phrasing off the lyrics is really interesting and the change of time sig on the 'what a night to take a ride' is weird and brilliant.
Excellent stuff
cheers

Thank you
the time signature changes to 5/4 just for two bars at that point and then back to normal 4/4. Wasn't sure if it would work but I'm getting used to it.

My first
thought was Supertramp too. Then it twists and turns into many things. This is a truly masterful song John - downloaded for many listens. Thanks.

Very creative
Not sure how to categorize this one, which is a good thing. This is very cool. Beatles meets carnival music meets Jimmy Buffet. Well done, very cool man!
