Description
I had Mark Stunkel (IBSTRAT) over to my house some time back and we jammed all after noon. I recorded about half of what we did, they were just basically single takes of what we played. I didn't really do anything to them except eq and panning and so forth. That day, Mark brought a song he had written for us to record...i was so thrilled, he even had it written out for me! (course I, musical illiterate, smiled and nodded and read the chord chart....anyway)...we played thru this a couple of times and I thought maybe if we had a percussion loop in the background helping us hold the time, we might be able to play the tune well enough for me to take the tracks and finish them somehow. My intention was to add simple bass and drums and give it to the band to learn, and then add them to the Live performance.

We haven't had the time to get together to record as a band , so I finished this off the best I could using percussion loops and things...and I thought I would share Mark's delightful minor blues with y'all.

Mark double tracked the harmonies, plays the melody and first solo. we trade back and forth at the ending.
hopefully there will be a Band version of this shortly.

Love the guitar work. This remeniscent of the long instrumental section of The Rolling Stones "Cant You Hear Me Knocking". Thusly I bet some sax would go good in this mix. Very nicely done!

The Sultry Miss
Maybe slightly rushed against the percussion in spots, but not too bad. Just relax a little. Very tastey!

hehehe
when the guitars were recorded there was no percussion per se, just a simple samba drum loop...i added all the percussion layers later so yeah, this is rushing in spots. But it is a live single take, basically. All the lead and rhythm guitar were recorded in a single run thru, with the harmony added later.

sax would be very cool...or some smokey flute...but it is what it is...master and student...mark is an unreal guitarist and SUPERB teacher!

What fun. and how blessed to be able to just sit and do this...i can think of very few things in life that bring more joy!

What a cool, slinky tune. Love the harmonies and then the stretching out. You guys both play so fluently and expressively. I assume Mark is on the left channel and Fran the right, right?

Neighbors jam
Love the Santana feel, the lead guitars, the smooth airy motion. The loops work well. Some of the rhythm guitar isn't quite as rhythmically precise as it could be, in my ears, in several places, and some of it has an EQ edge that clashes a tad with the lead. But, way cool duet. Man, you guys should just set up in your garage and jam for the neighborhood. You'd have a crowd in no time. Thanks for sharing this.

thanks tobin
yeah...we sort of pop in and out of time because we were playing along with a hokey samba beat to try and stay in time. But this is a live performance...i think it was the second run thru, so i was hesitating here and there. Plus, when you play with Mark, your jaw gets in the way, cuz it's dropped so far....

This is going to be one awesome band tune. I'm always blown away at folks who can press 'record' and have it sound as good as this.

Sultry, but foot stompin..
The guitar harmonies are very cool. Love the quirky melody of this tune. This has a great live feel to it. Wonderful energy. I wish I could have been there. Sounds like you two had a great time. Wrong coast though... ;)

You each have such distinct styles.. They blend really well.

That would be great...
to get together with a fellow macjammer and do some serious tracking. I suspected a latin beat would come out of this. You guys play well together and I was really digging on the double lead... and then someone to the left started tearing it up... but that's not all... this guy to the right answers and back and forth... candy to the ears, a whole jar full. Enjoyed... thanks for sharing.
