Lyrics

Still Lovin’ Enough

The years roll by and they take their toll
It feels sometimes our love’s gone cold
There’s days when I can’t stand this place
And wish I’d never seen your face

I’m still learnin’ to let sleeping dogs lay down
I’ve started seein’ smiles that lay behind the frown
You gotta roll with the punches, in the clinches it gets rough
But I’m still here and baby there’s still lovin’ enough.

Well love is nothin’ like a movie show
Where it all gets settled ‘fore the credits roll
It’s more like a river with twists and bends
And there aint no map showin’ where it ends

Grass looks greener over on the other side
But roots sink deeper and we grow thinker hides
If you heel too close to the wind your sails will luff
But I’m still here and baby there’s lovin’ enough.

You’re still laughing at all my jokes
The house is still messy and were still broke
But we’re steerin’ clear of our dark places
Shinin’ light in the corner spaces
Fillin’ up boxes and hauling away our junk

The Moon is risin’ on a night that’s starry
Love means learning to say your sorry
Wanna lay beside you, feel your body curvin’
Need an extra helpin’ of the love your servin’

Miles keep clickin’ by and were still making time
Still plenty bottle left before we cork this wine
Best lay up, take a stroke, when you hit the rough
But I’m still here and baby there’s lovin’ enough
Still lovin’ enough

Quality work John
Clever lyrics. Just the right side of saccharin ;-)

My only small nit is that the piano seems to pop in and out rather abruptly. Maybe it's just me.

Nice work though.

Cheers

Wow, that is very special. I have a pair of students who have been married for 65 years. They are 93 & 95 years old. This is such a wonderful song, and very beautifully sang.

As always...
Your music, the performances on them and the sound quality are wondrous. A rapturous yet introspective and warm song--loved it! Any of us who have been in a loving relationship for quite a number of years can so easily relate to your lyrics. Thanks again and keep up the great work!

PS: Michael is one of the most talented folks in this joint--thanks for mentioning him!

your work delivers on every front. You've got a nice, soft touch to your songwriting -- mellow and smooth in a framework that just as easily fosters turmoil. I'll always be hearing echoes of Springsteen in this song (and others I've heard by you), but they're just echoes. You totally remake that aesthetic, quiet it down a little bit. Great stuff.

Taylor and Lightfoot
Your style sounds like the best combination of James Taylor and Gordon Lightfoot. Maybe a little Jim Croce thrown in for good measure.

This song has a simple harmonic structure, but that's what makes it easier for the listener to focus on the lyrics. Well-crafted!

Congrats on your twenty-five years. My wife and I celebrate our 25th anniversary this month. Best 25 years of my life.

Beautifully recorded. Instruments complement each other well.

Excels in all departments, John

Love the silence at 2'29" - even that gap is well judged and adds to the sentiment.

Thanks for allowing free download, appreciate it.

Great tune full of knowledge and light.
That piano is perfect.
What, a skip in the vocal line! You are writing, no more a mechanic.
Can I still be your friend?

Great stuff as usual. Your songs always prove what a difference a studio recorded piece can have from a home recorded piece. Can I ask what mics you used for the acoustic guitars and for the vocal track? If it's something I can afford I might put it on my wish list. Brian.

definitely a Love song
Lovely listening and very relatable perspective of lots of years of marriage.
I better listen again, and keep this tune available for chilling out next time I'm peeved at the partner.. or, more realistically, vice versa.
