Back at The Wheel w Yordbear

Description
So here is a completely new version of a song I posted back at the start of the year. At that time it was a rush of writing, recording and posting. Last month I took it to Yordbear and we did a complete re record from basics. Really pleased with the outcome and the whole joint recording process, (in the same room at the same time!) was great fun. Huge thanks to Yordbear for everything he contributed to this one. Hope we get a chance to do a few more in the future.

The song itself is a sort of “Approaching 50 state of my nation ramble”.

*Yordbear*:

What an excellent opportunity and pleasure to hear and record this great performer. Mark has such a natural strapping expressive ample vocal and an effortless guitar playing style which was a delight to hear live. I'm Looking forward to more future collaborations on more great and exciting projects.

Lyrics
What was too modern for us
Is now too old for our kids
If the music’s too loud for us
We need to lift our lids

Smiling, laughing feeling fine
Working daily behind enemy lines
Ignore the comments
Ignore the looks
They tell jokes and we read books

Trying hard to fit in
Like a man on the run
But we all read the broadsheets
And they all read “The Sun”

You gotta get up and go for it
Feel when the moment is real
Take it all while you’re here and now
Tomorrow your back at the wheel

That’s where we were then
It’s not where we are now
Reunion just confirms it
We’ve all got older and how

Is there an end to heaven?
Have we still got something to say
We’re shouting at the disco
And we’re not too old to play

Never going to change now
Keep on doing the things you do
It seems to me you’ve chosen your path
Or your path has chosen you.

You gotta get up and go for it
Feel when the moment is real
Take it all while you’re here and now
Tomorrow your back at the wheel

I’ve seen this place
I’ve heard this song
I’ve travelled this road
And I’ve said these words
I’ve read this news
And I’ve seen these faces
Ten thousand times before but…

One day your on a calendar
The media call you a star
By the end of the year your forgotten
And nobody knows who you are.

Save the planet is what I hear
Everyone suffers from the future fear
You’re the ones who created this stress
So you can clean up this emotional mess

No matter how we try to avoid it
We’re all born eventually
I know it’s just a poor excuse
But I was young when it happened to me

You gotta get up and go for it
Feel when the moment is real
Take it all while you’re here and now
Tomorrow your back at the wheel

You gotta get up and go for it
Feel when the moment is real
Take it all while you’re here and now
Tomorrow your back at the wheel

You gotta get up and go for it
Feel when the moment is real
Take it all while you’re here and now
Tomorrow your back at the wheel

don't know where, don't know where were from
don't know where were going but tomorrow were back at the wheel

don't know where, don't know where were from
don't know where were going but tomorrow were back at the wheel

don't know where, don't know where were from
don't know where were going but tomorrow were back at the wheel

It's so hard to believe...
that two artists could create something that sounds like at least 50 musicians were involved. Great song! And very professionally delivered and sounding as well...two thumbs up!

Very nice vocals and harmonies. Melody builds nicely up to the hook. Horns are a nice touch.

At first
I found the big instrumentation a little overwhelming, but it's a nice song and eventually the incongruity of the brass/synth/strings on a "folk" song faded a little. Reminiscent of something hidden in my memory (not too difficult these days - most of my memories seem hidden!) - very british feel to the sounds, but american vibe to the lyrics. Interesting post.

sometimes
it's good to strip a song back to the basics and start over again. I know this rush of writing and uploading and sometimes you think: I should have taken more time..
It's a fine song and I can relate to the lyrics!

Tis the season to be symphony
Through some coincidence I'm listening to 3 songs in a row that all feature large orchestral arrangements. I like this. I'm especially impressed how nicely the vocals blend into the big sound. Great arrangement.

Sysiphus...Love it!
Well, that's one heck of a long list of lyrics...Not sure I get it all, but appreciate your effort to tell the story. .. Your instrumentation sounds a little like its under water. I guess you wanted it that way, but I found it distracting and somewhat out of tune.
