thanks
I did nothing in this new version, all the changes are Loob's work. And very good work it is, i think. Thanks for stopping by!

A definite
difference in feel. This version has much more vibe going on behind it. Your vocal sounds more in the groove. Loob did a great job on your vocal treatment for this. Cool synths and electronic sounds. Big improvement!

do an outstanding job. I especially liked the drum fills and the guitar riff at the very end. Glad you enjoyed, and thanks for the feedback!

This is an improvement to what was already your best post to date. The drums and synth backing has an 80's Cars vibe. The guitars are a nice addition. I like the vocal melody a lot. I do wish you'd articulate the lyrics a bit more clearly. I think lyrically the song is very strong but some gets lost in the phrasing.

phrasing
is one of the unending struggles for me when it comes to my singing. I also just slur my words a little bit during normal speech, for some reason -- I'm trying to not get into that habit when I sing. I'm glad you liked this new version more, I do too. Thanks for the feedback!

Waw !
Amazing tune ! You do fantastic additions from one post to another, awesome. Great work from Fred too, really nicely worked this out.

Any plans adding a bass line ?

this one
was all Fred, actually -- the additions, I mean. Funnily enough, one of the synth pads I used for the melody (the one that comes in at 0:24), is actually a bass synth. Personally, I'm not a huge fan of bass, I like a more or less uninhibited chiming sound, unless it's a funk or hip-hop song, that is. I may be entirely misguided, though. Glad you dug this new version, and, as always, thanks for the awesome support!

Cheers

slowly building intro
leads us into an electro-beat-infused crunchy meditative state, with candy-sweet synths and locomotive-guitar work propelling the singing along under a mechanical dream-sky. cool.

very
eloquent praise. Mechanical dream-sky? As Auden painted, "an artifical wilderness and a sky like lead." Thanks for the comment, it was very well-expressed.

Cheers!

Lyrics are as follows:
Bells, churches,
Let the hail fall down on your tongues.

Yell verses,
The passion that pricks the heels of the young.

Toll a pulse into the air...

Nice build-up
This is a good arrangement. Slowly but surely all the pieces fall into place. Even the (harumpf) handclap.

tf10music said 2543 days ago (November 2nd, 2010)
HANDCLAP
I feel you. I figured that it's the most cliched percussion effect possible, so I may as well appeal to a hipster demographic and put it in a non-cliched setting (that was definitely not what was going through my mind, I just didn't like the way any of the other pads I tried were working). The drums that Fred added in definitely did a great job of overshadowing the claps enough that they kind of got caught in the controlled chaos of the arrangement, as opposed to, you know, CONTROLLING that chaos. So yeah. Glad you liked the arrangement, I always value your approval.

Cheers!

Bells
This has a retro 80's vibe to it, peppy melody, Kraftwerk-ish almost, I'd develop those vocals a bit more I think, although they have an spontaneous quality.
well done!

Hi there Ben - I've been noting your progress, and was really pleased to see Freddy give you this great backing track. You're really experimenting with lots of things, and fearlessly trying them out. i really admire that! you are clearly a poet, and working through how to translate poetry into lyrics that work in a song.

I'm still
wrapping my head around that -- I think some people just have a gift for that kind of thing (Dylan, for example, wrote fabulous lyrics, but the one book of poetry he published was absolutely terrible), and, alas, I don't seem to be someone to whom that particular side of it comes naturally. Very glad to have caught your attention, you're a remarkable musician. Thanks for the support!

I haven't been playing music for too long. I've dabbled with the guitar for years, but it was only late in 2009 when I started writing my own stuff, and I've loved it ever since. I had always been inventing riffs or short melodies on the guitar, but ... [see more]
