Description
Started this morning and picked away at it between work assignments. Figure I'd post before I think better of it. Started by playing around with Tal Noisemaker soft synth from the M2 freebies forum. The rest is guitar through a Boss V-Wah pedal and tortured drum loops.

Warning - you may find this on the unpleasant side.

Happy Halloween

Probably
could have done without the "introductory mosquito" having just recovered from 6 months of a mosquito-borne disease ;)
Not at all unpleasant Kevin. This sounds like the lost soundtrack to Apocalypse Now. Very military - in a bent sort of way.
Cool.

Sorry to hear about the skeeter sickness
hope all is well now. Thanks for the kind words - after repeated listening I started to feel a little queasy from the slightly off kilter beating synth.

excellent
love the machine gun drums

i just saw a programme on NOVA about the rescue of the 33 miners in chile....this could have been a soundtrack to the images of the giant drills

There's a great scene in Fellini's Roma
where a giant tunnel borer breaks through to an ancient chamber - as frescoes fade before the camera exposed to oxygen after hundreds of years. Thank the Spectral plug ins for the staccato drums.

Sounds like
either a war movie or a scary, slasher movie score. There is a lot of tension and dread. Gave me goose bumps. Thanks a lot. ;)

You said it, this would work great as a film score. Terminator or something like that.

rise of the machines
I've often thought that the film Terminator could do with a new soundtrack as the original sounds a bit dated.
This piece world fit brilliantly in with the new score.
Great use of sounds and textures.
In no way unpleasant but powerful and imaginative
enjoyed

Well....you
cannot whistle along to it can you? But it is not unpleasant. There have already been references to sci fi films and the like and they are definitely on the money.Powerfully evocative and a definite Happy Hallowe'en !

slow it down
Ive been in that frame of mind also, maybe we need another bpm challenge I can get my roland down to 20bpm but gb don't go there, I cant even tell that your using a guitar heavy duty the way I like it thanks for the synth stomp! another great one BUd!

Synth Challenge
Maybe a challenge using a specific synth at a specific bpm?

I'm in!!

This is at the GB bottom
40 BPM. Could always take it into Audacity and drag it down some more. The guitar is playing the big chords that mod as they decay - and the strong two note figure. The Boss V-Wah is a cool new toy.

What I like most about this little number, besides everything, is the hesitation on the guitar riff. Very dramatic and unpleasant. Huh?

Great sounds, stutterific beats are so cool and the whole thing is killer.

Now I'm off to download that Tal Noisemaker for myself!

Good music
for the right movie. I liked it as a stand alone piece as well, but might have preferred a slightly smoother feel in some of the more "interuptive" parts. If that makes sense. Friday night... :-|

nice
that V wah sounds phenomenal, what a nasty sound. i love this, perfect for the spookier times of the year. like what you did with the drum loop. noisemaker is a great synth huh? you can do some pretty outlandish sounds with it. great track Kevin.

love the jittery destruction on the drums. Did you do that by stretching the waveforms on a beat/transient algorhythm? Especially love the repeated arrhythmic snare shots. Killer stuff, a definite fave.

I think
you have a 2nd career as a horror-sci-fi soundtrack man. This a dark as all get out, and totally up my alley this eve of All Hallows Eve. Evil with a capital "E". The percussive blip reminds me of a song I did ages ago in the same dark vein called "Airlock" after the last scene in the movie Alien. I'll have to send it to you...

Noisemaker
It's probably seasonal suggestiveness ... but I keep thinking this feels pretty much like the contortions of somebody going the throes of a post-Halloween sugar rush after having eaten way too much Park Slope trick-or-treat candy.

I was able to listen to it a half-dozen times before saying, "okay, that's enough for now" : )

But just because you can't listen to something 25, 50 or 75 times in a row, that doesn't necessarily mean it is uninteresting. There are plenty of songs out there I think are good, but that I only want to hear once every five years or so.

There's great drama in these sounds. Not bad for a free noisemaker.

Drum rolls, and ominous overtones would make this perfect for a military sci-fi flick. Cool sound choices, well balanced across the stereo field, and the parts are sitting well in the mix.
