Description
I do not post this song as a magnificent example of electronic recording techniques or clean production values. Nay! This song was recorded on a kitchen table with a Zoom H2 handy recorder. A little three inch by six inch stand a lone. It is rather posted as a warning to all the young musicians out there (which I guess judging by my lights, would be anyone under sixty) as to what can happen when you do a song which hasn't been played or rehearsed in quite a long time. Especially if the grape has been allowed to ferment too long and the ozone level is high! This is either a hidden gem or a complete disaster. I leave it to your appraisal values to complete that judgement.

Tom bronco - Enthusiastic rhythm guitar, songwriter, lead vocal
Greg noodles - guitar noodling, harmony vocal, dog howling

Lyrics
They call me the bluebird, but I still like to fly
Same
I want to keep on living, I don't want to die

There's a strange wind blowing cross the prairie tonight
There's a strange wind blowing over the prairie tonight
I just spread my wings, and I take to flight

There's a dead dog lying in a crater on Mars
There's a dead dog lying in a crater on Mars
Well I guess that's what you get , for always howling at the stars

If you want to know what's going on, know what's going on today
f you want to know what's going on, know what's going on today
Just kick an anthill and get out of the way

Oh they call me the bluebird, but I still like to fly
Oh they call me the bluebird, but I still like to fly
I want to keep on living, but one of these days I'm going to touch the sky

My vote: hidden gem!!! pretty impressive for something not rehearsed or played in a long time, and the sound is amazingly good and clear for a kitchen table recording! and the main thing is, it sounds like you guys were just having a blast, and isn't that what it's all about? thanks tom and greg - great to hear from you!

I like the country blues form. Minor key blues can be so wonderfully dark sounding. Nice lyrics. Great quality for a live field recording. Thanks for letting me sit at the table and listen.

Reminds me of the time...
...I was asked to play "Kitten on the Keys" after having not touched it for several years--I KNOW what you mean! But really, you undersell yourself here Tom--this is live entertainment and despite all the diverse elements working against you guys here, you really sold the song and I truly enjoyed listening in. This reminded me of the little club the musicians in A.C. used to haunt after the shows were over and they'd get up and work out something--I felt I like was there again. I couldn't think of a better treatment for this song--some great vocal and guitar licks make this a standout (and send me a slice of that pizza dammit!) Thanks again and good to hear you (and Greg) at work! Michael

ZOOM H2 Love them
Dig the chatter before the tune.

Like a lost demo from a great band. Very cool tune.

I always get nervous when
someone says "I'll sing a harmony" on an unrehearsed song :) But, in this case it works just fine.

The sound quality on this from the Zoom H2 is quite amazing. The guitars sound terrific - especially the strummed one.

Very nice to hear something so upfront and raw.

I love to play guitar. I have been writing songs for many years and have a large catalog by this time. Songwriting is easy. Writing great songs is hard! Born in Louisiana and live in Texas. I grew up on Chuck, Jerry Lee, Elvis, Ricky, Little Richard ... [see more]
