Description
A few months back Sanjay, a friend and very talented filmmaker kindly invited me to score a short film he was working on. I had a great time working on it and this is a short track from the first half.

The film is called "Ocean Monk" - about New York surfers on a spiritual path - and opened the NY Surf Festival. It just screened at Tribeca Cinemas for the 'Big Apple Film Festival' a few days ago and got such nice reviews "here" and "here".

If you're interested, the St. Louis Film Festival is screening it online for a few more days until Nov. 10. You'll have to create a free account to see the link for the movie, but that should only take a few seconds.
Here is the link"

The soundtrack also includes Sigur Ros (Með suð í eyrum - one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard), Wixel - a very interesting band from Belgium - Mark Swiderski and the trailer features former MacJammer Slotogenic's 'Ocean'!

Seriously - I've got nothing.
I'm just enjoying the ride while it lasts - and when it's over, well, that's where the 'repeat' function comes in handy!

Beautiful stuff as always, man.

crystal clear, as usual
and the bubbling synth gives it that frosty sea crest sound. Just a touch of echo here gives "depth", and just hints of power... nice!

Top notch
composition. I've just had a look at the trailer and can see how this beautiful music would fit perfectly. I shall look out for the film, if ever it makes it across the Atlantic!

Magical stuff. I've downloaded myself a copy, thank you.

I've never surfed but
this was the first tune I listened to this Sunday morning, and it is beautiful. A refreshing piece of music, kind of like a much-needed shower ;-) Since you don't mind, I'll take a copy for the iPod and use it occasionally to refresh what Karen might call my "alleged" brain.
Thanks, and cheers.

Always a treat
with a new Parichayaka piece, and this of course is no exception. I do hear a hint of mid-80's Tangerine Dream in there, mixed in with the genuine Parichayaka-sound. Mood, composition (development), sounds, mixing... Simply great. Thanks for sharing (downloaded).

Take care,
Henke

Spiritual Surf Music
This is fantastic! How wonderful to have an opportunity to combine your atmospheric aural landscapes with film! I'm very pleased for you.

This is beautiful music, perhaps a bit more "boppy" in the middle section than I am used to hearing in your music, which I am imagining has something to do with what's going on in the movie; it's all very fine, and I hope you have many more opportunities to work with Sanjay and other film-makers.

Your music is always something to look forward to and this song is no exception "wonderful stuff" and I'm glad to see your getting recognition for your talents. Also been listening to Sigur Ros myself recently there one of the best bands I've ever heard so fresh and original yet they just use instruments that have been around for years. Have you listened to Ára bátur a song of simplicity but so wonderful.

Sea Dream
Always impressive how anyone gets a multi-layered sound to be as effective as this. Sounds really professional to me (who wouldn't know!)

The whistles/squeaks at 1:20 ish reminded me of dolphin voices?

i work at sea myself, on ships, although the feel of my own relationship to the water is probably a long way from that of a surfer, especially at this time of year when the bad weather comes! Nevertheless, a film is a sort of dream, as all music is really (this is getting heavy now, isn't it?) and it fits the subject very well.

Wonderful job.

Enjoyed it.

i have seen
a few synth dolphins swim around in my setup, shy and elusive creatures they are! thanks for your interesting comment - the surf scenes in the film are shot mostly in winter when it gets freezing cold in NY, but yes, this track is during an earlier, more dreamy scene. hope music like this can provide some solace when the sea gets rough:)

this is one of the best tunes I've heard in awhile. i'm a little stunned to tell you the truth. i can definitely see this in a soundtrack; and can I tell you how jealous I am of your sharing that honor with Sigur Ros (one of my fave bands). outstanding, this is about to go on heavy rotation in my car. thanks.

I do not know what to tell ... I could easily agree with all that has been sad or if I would try to add some other compliment it would be impossible to write sth that would fit the beauty of the piece you did. Sorry I cannot even come with any specific constructive criticism here ... I can only thank you for your inspiration and peaceful moment that brought me back some nice memories from not far ago :)
Take care!

Ah...that big chord at 1:14 came at just the right moment, exactly. I am completely covered in the sounds you have created here, just floating along in peaceful bliss, knowing that everything will be okay by the time the number ends. I have no doubt
that this was perfect in your film. I am quite taken (enthralled!) with each of the "lifts" that pop ini to tour score, as they bring new energy to the number as it unfolds. This isnsuch a pleasant listening experience to my ears. Am on my third repetition now and still thrilled by what I hear.

A Spiritual Surfing Practice? - cool
Your use of crystal and other bells are like sparkles on the waves. The development at 1:15 sets the stage for what follows at 1:30, and this part reminds me a little of gamelan music fused with the dulcet ambient tones you've laid down already. The wise use of the drums is so well balanced in the mix - they could have gotten out of control in other hands (like mine :), and with all of the other well chosen musical devices I'm left quite speechless at how effective this overall piece is. I'll bet against the visuals in the film it was quite stunning.

Kudos, and thanks for letting us have a listen.

Cheers,
Doug
