Description
Yet another glimpse into the soul of Emma. This time we catch a glimpse of her playing her classical synth guitar.

The first time I heard this I knew I wanted to do an instrumental version. I recently bought a new guitar (a Godin nylon string synth guitar). It allows me to mix the classical guitar with guitar-driven synth). I thought this song would make a good show piece for the new guitar.

The guitars used were:
- Classical guitar
- Classical guitar with orchestral strings
- Classical guitar with sitar
- Classical guitar with analog synth
- PRS custom 24 played through a Marshall preamp

Excellent
This has a wonderful sound. The blend of the instruments is nice and the clean and nuanced production really works, letting the listener hear each note clearly. Good stuff.

THanks
The structure of this song fit really well with the new classical guitar. I'm glad you liked it.

Yet another
very cool rendition - love the precision of the electric parts in particular. Love the way this builds. Beautiful post with a touch of the Dr Zhivago soundtrack to my ears.
Cheers,
N

Yet another Emma
I'm glad you liked it. I've heard some really good vocal takes on this and wanted to try something a little different. I was nervous about uploading it because some of the other versions are so good.

Then I thought ... If this were a movie sound track there would be a need for an instrumental reprise.

Dr. Zhivago
oooh.. I wish I would have heard this when I was finishing my mix. Some well placed timpani and other orchestral percussion would have sealed the deal. Ahhh.... next re-mix.

Pretty and sad.
What a lovely version, perhaps a contemplative moment? One that spirals into itself obviously....

Very cool!
very soulful sounding guitar, especially considering it was a keyboard! Really cool! Some real emotion conveyed in your additions, this is excellent!

Guitar
Actually it is a guitar driven synth. The guitar is a nylon string classical, but it has a Roland GK-3 pickup that drives the synth (a Roland GR-20).

I'm glad you liked it, Charles.

Well that makes sense then. I was wondering how it was articulated so much like a guitar.

she looks into the mirror...
she purses her lips around the lipstick, as the hypnotic smoke curls around her thoughts, and takes her gypsy mind back to the old country. She is almost ready to greet the mundane gray outside world, but here in her "tent", she can be the classic lady she always wants to be.

An excellent re-orchestration and glimpse into another mirror of Emma.

excellent playing and arrangement. Very impressed with the Godin. I have their Session Strat and love it. The nylon synth you have sounds amazing.

Session Strat
I just ordered a GK-3 pickup for my PRS. I hope it tracks as well as the Godin. I'm amazed at how little latency there is. I've always wanted a decent classical/electric and couldn't resist the synth option. The Godin plays really well. Love the neck. I got the thinner neck version (targeted at latin jazz rather than classical). Extremely comfortable.

Thanks, Kevin.

Godin does it really well
I'm amazed at how well this Godin nylon string guitar does. It tracks really well. The Roland GR-20 has some nice voices, but is somewhat limited. I haven't tried using it as a midi controller yet. I'm hoping it doesn't add too much delay.

Best Emma to date!
Neil nailed it with his Dr. Zhivago comparison.

Freakin' lovely throughout... and ever-so-slightly ominous in places.

Love it!

Hot damn!
As Bud said: amazing playing and arrangement! (OK, he said excellent... ;-) The sounds are terrific: I especially like the way the sitar finishes the verse at 1:35. I'm sure my ears must be playing tricks but there appeared to be a dog bark at 3:02 and a few times later.

This is da bomb!
With headphones, that guitar panning is a little distracting, but otherwise, this is amazing. Really cool to hear an instrumental version of this. Brilliant doubling on the melody with that power metal style guitar.

tonestones said 2590 days ago (November 14th, 2010)
Da Bomb..
Joachim, you are the pyrotechnical audio expert. The panning you are referring to is probably due to a late edit of mine. I recorded the Guitar/Synth on three channels: nylon string (mono) and synth (stereo). I then panned the nylon to the left and the synth to the right. I thought it gave it better separation, but it is probably because the listened to it so many times centered first.

Glad you liked it.

Great
Love the mix and am so impressed. This synth guitar thing has got me interested to learn more.
There's a very deep bass throbbing in places which sounds brilliant in my headphones.
Very nice

The guitar is a Godin Multiac played through a Roland GR-20. I've used it on one other piece ("Wonderland Blvd"), but this is the first tune where I featured it all the way through. I'm glad you like it.
