Description
Just a quick documentary recording done solely with my Zoom H4 recorder at a rehearsal with my band Kontrabeat. Thought the energy in this take sounded like we had some fun, and wanted to share it. These guys are the best and I'm proud to be in the band with them.

Jostein Johansen - keys
Øyvind Lende - bass guitar
Lars Erling Øyen - drums
Thor Oliversen - Guitar/vocals

Lyrics
Work and money
Thor Oliversen©2010

I got home
from a hard days work
I’ve been, I’ve been moving pages
just like I always do

The phone rings
I toss it on the floor
Pick it up, and find it’s just my boss
craving me for more

I listen to his crap,
all I want - is tell him back
I don’t need that shitty job,
no not no more

And now,
now the taxman comes around to collect

Well here you are, this is the way it went
I couldn’t find the guts to tell him what I felt
So I just go on, I just go on

Couldn’t find a helping aid
to put me on the path that leads to into something else
So I’m digging deeper, I’m digging deeper,..

Work, work is what we do.
And money is what we get.
I get an empty pocket, with no fee.
I have a hungry woman, so I just cant let it be.

absolutely. You can hear the bond you guys share in every measure. I would very much like to know what Mr Johansen uses for that incredible organ sound. This is type of music I dream of playing.

Sounds great guys!
You do this so well Thor. The Zoom H4 seems to work well too - we're about to start recording more with PBGB, and I'm hoping to get a really good sound via Presonus FireStudio. The organ sounds fantastic (as does the guitar) vox, bass and drums lose out in the balance, but I know how hard this is. I'm not trying to be critical at all - this is not a production slaved over for hours of course, but a bit of "realia". You must sound brilliant at a gig! Brilliant playing and singing - I'm with John, the organ sound is excellent!
Best wishes from Pambula Beach :)

Sweet and nasty, reminiscent of Steely Dan and Boz Scaggs. Great guitar licks, and the keys fill in just right. Nice!

Yee-HAW!
Yeee-HAW!
A funky new gem by one of my all-time favorite MJers!

"Work And Money": a slice of the life of everyman in the post-industrial civilization.

Cool guitar groove. Classic keyboard soloing. Guitar solo is spot-on! Nice live sound.

Excellent post!

Be well frien

Nothing better then live
Recording sounds great, and you're right to be proud of the band, you all sound very good together.

Reminds me a little of "The Atlanta Rhythm Section" if you are familiar with them from the 70's here in the US

Excellent post Thor

This sort of sound...
...is about the perfect frame for your strengths, Thor...

Bass, drums, B3.... I continue to enjoy your vocal phrasing, lead phrasing, and approach to rhythm...

Hey...if you didn't, check out fambroski's latest, which has some of that same sort of feeling to it... I think you might like it...

This sounds great...

This is cool, Thor. It's nice to hear a good live recording of you guys playing. The funk is great and you all do sound like you're having fun. I especially liked the groove and the organ playing.
