Description
Siren's Headband:
Char: Voice and inspiration
Andy Sax: Tenor
Steve Stone: Vocals, organ, percussion, bass
Daug: Piano, synths, bass, percussion, samples

Steve wrote "Sensory Overload", the basic groove which backs his lyrics and Andy's solos.
Andy's work is one continuous mind blowing take. There are no cuts, splices, redoes or fixes on his track.
Char is the "control voice", the Siren, she inspired the work I did here.

Lyrics
Sensory overload, hurts the head or so I'm told
and what you do to me you can plainly see is so much worst

I can't get my mind off you, I can't sleep at night
I feel obsessed, distressed and quite perplexed
I need a new world view and asap too
I need a rest, oh that would be best

Information exploitation, we are a fully digitized nation
the sound of silence has been an unheard form of art

-chorus-

I'm not what you think, just read me wrong
it's only a wink, it's only my song
I don't complicate, I don't want your soul
if you hesitate, then, I'll gain control

crazy stuff!
The whistle on the "s" on the vox is a little sharp here and there, and it's a little loud for my tastes. The sax could also be processed into something a little less front and centre in the mix. Love that bangin, noodlin rhythm section. Really great arrangement. A definite fave. The drum processing around 2:00 is frikkin great. Sick, sick semi-atonal jamm the playful synth fx are off the wall good.

You guys just might be
the Captain Beefheart of MJ! Ha ha...

Delightfully bizarre! And I DO mean delightfully...

Love Andy's wailing soloing, and the keyboard work is stellar. The tune really takes off when the percussion track kicks in.

It's like listening to the sounds made by a shattered mosaic. LOL

Color me blown away folks!

Be well!

Glad you are here!
Thanks for stopping by B. Hard to follow? I will try to help.
Steve's melody is unique, I hear the heptatonic scale with two augmented seconds.
As Andy Lack has pointed out above, at 1:50 or so, a breakdown of Steve's weave of African influenced pulses occurs. A "stone" jazz trap set "overloads the rhythm" and Andy Sax joins in!
A "chromatic overload" section follows and ends with a strongly "left handed" bass "re-joiner".
Steve's original ideas re-emerge, with an Orchid synth playing his melody in the second solo section.
The synth "weave" at the end features Steve's melody scale. I hope this increases your enjoyment of the experience.

I might have
gone for the duodecagonic scale but I guess it is a matter of taste! Trippy song, on the edge of jazz/rock and experimental. Some cool sounding drum processing in there. A veritable smorgasbord of sounds and ideas. Cool tune guys!

We did!
Charles your ears are good! The part I wrote flaunts the 12 tone approach. Steve's melody is from the heptatonic scale with two augmented seconds, at least that is my analysis, and I am sticking to it!
Thanks for supporting the SH. We love all our listeners.

Sensory Overload
Rhythmic stops and starts, and the use of scales unfamiliar to me produced a hyper focused state where I tried to make "sense" out of this piece. Not going to happen, although the artistry is apparent. Of course this can happen in real life, which I guess is the point of the piece.

Interesting
As this is not my particular genre, I will give comments strictly to mix, geocoding, etc. Overall, everything has it's place in the mix, but I felt it was all a little too dry, and lacked a room, or volumous feel. It seemed as if everything was done in different places at different times.
A good example of getting a room sounding spectacular would be to listen to Tobin Meuller's jazz ensemble posts. They really get the big, airy feel of a room or live performance perfect...
All in all, clean, repsonsive mix in my earbuds, and monitors. Great post!

Welcome Allen
Thanks for dropping by, great production at your place. Interesting remarks, allow me to explain.
My approach to reverb is arid. Roger Nichols is my ideal, that should help you understand what I am trying to do mix wise anyway. I do enjoy the "big" reverb mixes, just not on my material.
This is a matter of taste and intension. Fire and huge reverb are nearly mutually exclusive in my experience, and I need the space between your ears more than a big wet room as a canvass. I depend on the reverb in your mind.
This essentially is pieced together. No grand smoothing room is going to change that, it is what it is...

Very difficult
to sing to; easier somehow to play to? I don't really know, but the effort alone leaves me speechless. Andy's in control here; and Papag's circus analogy is good, though I would've said Grand Guignol......

MOM is back!
Did you wanna put on a harmony MOM?
Once the twelve tone section starts I bet it is impossible if you rely on standard chords to generate your solo spew, yet Andy does it, without breaking his concentration, amazing. Even if you are sax purist, and Andy's technique is uniquely his, every player has to respect that, realtime response to a track this wild!
I am amazed he is still my friend.
MOM thanks for your support, we love you in all states.

Thanks for sending us your poetry, there is only one Char, of course, I am hoarding the rest future use. Not too often a real Siren speaks...
I can't imagine how you wrote those lines. They describe the digital Siren responding to Steve's plea with truth and compassion. Yet, the Siren boldly asserts she is going to "take control". Brilliant!
