Description
i had the chords figured out on this for about a week. friday evening i recorded all the music tracks and layed down the vocals and did the mixing on saturday. i rarely ever work that fast anymore. the rhythm tracks i did record through the bugera amp that i had mentioned through a forum post sometime back. the distorted guitar tracks and bass are using logics amp designer and pedalboard effects.

the conditions, weather-wise this fall were ideal and produced the most spectacular colors on the variety of trees around town...... so that is where vivid came to mind for the lyrics

Lyrics
Vivid

i watched colors tumble through
floating and drifting into view
and the intensity grew and grew
and the sky never looked so blue

watch the world it's vivid
vivid through and through
held the colors in my hand
and the light shines through
and the colors won't last long as they use to do
watch the world it's vivid

here the sun doesn't last to long
before you know it the day is gone
the night and the stars have finally won
the death of the day and colors gone

watch the world it's vivid
vivid through and through
held the colors in my hand
and the light shins through
and the colors won't last long as they use to do
watch the world it's vivid

diminished colors fog my mind
here the dormant land waits for color again

here the colors cheated my world
a blank slate out my window
different colors will come and go
vivid is the world in my mind

watch the world it's vivid
vivid through and through
held the colors in my hand
and the light shins through
and the colors won't last long as they use to do
watch the world it's vivid

I'm
Struggling with logics amp designer and pedalboard. Your getting way better results than me.
Your speedy creation doesn't show.
Cool, catchy stuff as always
Vic Holman said 2470 days ago (November 14th, 2010)
Thanks Ed.
i don't know why you should have any problem with the amp designer. did you try any of the presets? those usually work out pretty good.
i wish i had the motivation to knock down songs all the time in two days, thanks for the listen

The vox on this reminds me
of the Beatles at different stage of the recording years. The Bugera sounds cool and the bass to, but the lead sound is a little over the top for my taste. I will say this, your lead playing on it is stella so that's a definite Yes. I think I would have like a little more mellowness on the lead sound though.

Great song Vic

I'n not even showing the little bugera's full potential here. I need to figure a way to totally isolate it for a full bore sound that it can create. the lead i was trying out something that i hadn't used before. who knows I might change the set up for it somewhere down the line

thanks for the listen

I think...
...these great lyrics fit where I live most perfectly; I could well relate to them! Vic, this is another solid job from you--I expect no less. The mix and and mixture sound really great--and oh, man that guitar work is terrific! This is one Saturday well spent! Thanks again, Michael

That little amp has great distortion. Nice sound. It sounds just right for recording.

For working fast this turned out pretty awesome.

i only used the amp on the rhythm parts. it has a nice crunch. I need how to figure out how to isolate the amp to send it to total meltdown. right now with it in the same room makes it a bit difficult to to crank out and hear the rest of the recording tracks

Excellent work Vic. I especially liked the guitar solo and vocal effects. This has a retro feel for me. 80's punk brought up to date. (All Good)

piercing tone
so much scorn in every note of this song...the vocals snarl at you, the guitar is angry. It creates a kind of streamlined tension with the lyrical content -- it's through the contrast that I really registered the song. This is well done.

I can't decide if vivid is sarcastic or not...

working fast?
Sounds like someone I know well. Love the opening for starers. Also the vocal break was very neat. Chunky rhythm guitars were outstanding. And yes, a nod to the bass, which you seldom use as a dominate instrument. Maybe in the future?

Your rock guitar has to be at the top here at MJ.

i listened to this a dozen times
trying to figure it out. i always think tin machine whenever i hear your tunes, you'd have fit right into that band, musically and vocally sure but aesthetically most of all. your singing is top notch on this one, love that 'night and stars have finally won' phrase. this is a really heavy tune. GREAT solo. I really like how you don't set out to burn down the house but end up there anyway.

Comparisons?
Hey. I'd prefer to NOT!
You've just created a cool lyric and infused it with a rock 'n' roll vibe that's true from note one. This is so nicely and consistently mixed, too. That guitar lead riff at around 2:20 is spectacular, and it grows so naturally out of what just preceded it. I could never write this kind of music, but I can appreciate it for the marvelous composition and performance that is.
