Description
Here is me (Richard Schletty) singing over Jack's soundtrack. This is a remastering of tracks both Jack and I cut back in January of 2006. We were OK back then. Those were the days...

Also see Jack's cut (with his vox) here: http://www.macjams.com/song/64532

Jack wrote:

I wrote and recorded this "fifties R&R" song in January of 2006 and uploaded here at MJ. It has been gone for a couple years or so, and (inspired to repost this by the Calchas R&R collab with Vic and Scott... great instrumental) I wanted to bring it back this "tweaked mix" to my songlist. The song was dedicated at that time to the announced engagement of _nderscore and Miss Chaos.

Being a throw-back song to the fifties rock and roll, the lyrics refer to three tunes from that era:
The ABC's Of Love
Why Do Fools Fall In Love
In The Still Of The Night

So here's my attempt to echo the R&R of the 1950's.

Long live Rock and Rollllllllll.........

Lyrics
Well baby, baby it's a wonderful thing.
Since I met you, golly, all I want to do is sing.
There's no denying that you stopped me in my tracks.
And I ain't lying, I'm never turning back.
And one thing now is clear that whatever I do
I ain't gonna do it girl without you.

Well some say it happens in the still of the night.
This feeling that comes over me that makes me feel alright.
Why does the bird sing or the fool fall in love?
I'm starting to believe that you came from above.
Who knows where I'll end up?
Who knows what I'll do?
Just know that I ain't going there, girl, without you.

Bridge:
You know that I've been trying,
I've been trying every day.
To find a way to tell you
The things I want to say.

So let me spell it out to you,
The A, B, C's of love.
There ain't no other girl around
That I am thinking of.

Al right... the definitive vox!
You got the pipes, Rich. Your rocka-rolla style is coming through loud and clear. Your band should do this one! I hope a bunch of Mj-ers take a listen. They'll be glad they did.

Kudos Rich and best to you.

Alright... the definitive guitar licks!
Jack, thanks. I can hear a backing chorus and saxophone stabs being added to this. Great job on what you did back in 2006. I will see if my Rocka-Rolla group can do it at our next outing.

Anybody want to try fortifying this mix? Feel free!

Sounds like Elvis!!
That is a first, haven't heard anyone sound like Elvis yet. This is cool. I was expecting a rock song, but not quite like this. I could imagine Elvis jammin out to this back in the day. Excellent work here! You guys captured the 50's perfectly!

I got pelvis, too

Wow, that's a huge compliment – "haven't heard anyone sound like Elvis yet." Man, I am complete. As a kid, Elvis was the first vocal stylist I wanted to emulate. Then I switched to Jimmie Rodgers, then Jim Nabors, then Dean Martin... and so forth. But now I am back to Elvis. I bought his complete collection of Gospel songs a couple weeks ago. I'm working on "Peace In The Valley." I sang it for the first time last month at Southview Acres Health Care Center for a roomful of seniors. Just like Jack (Dadai) – he has been singing in nursing homes for a few years. I was inspired by that. That's why we're here – to inspire each other.

Okay, now that I know you're listening to me...
Let's see... we need the Jordanaires on here somewhere.... and then you've got to send this as a demo to Sleepy LaBeef....

Did you guys already this post this? Did I miss it years ago? I know I've got an old Jack version...

Anyway, it sound great... Even the mix/mastering has something of an old 45 ambience to it...

My only crit is that on my system I could stand to hear a bit more of Rich...centered, pushed up a few dBs and with the compression pumping and some slapback echo...

I could seriously see this being a retro hit....

Lardo said 2415 days ago (November 15th, 2010)
When Ed talks, everyone listens!

Heck yes. I think this could be a hit. As mentioned in this thread somewhere, I also think we could pump up the jam. I will try your suggestions. I posted my take sometime in early 2006 under rschletty (an account subjected to multiple erasures). But I also re-posted my vox version at Postludes Trio on May 2007 (which has somehow persisted throughout space, time and self-doubt). Here it was and still is, with all the mastering I could muster a few years ago:

So good
Mark, what you hear here are old scratchings on vinyl from January, 2006. If I re-recorded it today, I'd be late for church. Both Jack Miller and I are finding pleasure in remixing our old stuff. But, if you sign us to a recording contract and tour, we might start up again. And then again, probably not. Not tired, mind you. Just busy with grandkids and postlude introspection.

Nice vocal! Interval jumps in the melody capture Elvis's style. The backer is a clever homage to the 50's

Without You (w Dadai.2)

I suppose I could clean up my act. But yesterday, when I opened up my old Logic 7 project from 1-2006, I realized that this was my 3rd vocal run...and each take got progressively looser and more "affected." I chose the rockabilly grit over the more tempered approaches. We don't need bel canto here. We need rock n roll, baby! Thanks, Dave, for slapping down a comment. It helps shape-shifting dreamers like me and Jack get through the still of the night.

Coming from you, a guy who delivers "down & dirty, gut-bucket rock'n'roll," I think Jack and I can feel real good. Time for a cigarette and an A&W root beer.

Great lyrics and vocal. This took me back to hearing the records Dad played in the house when I was a kid. In fact it brought back memories so vivid I could actually smell the tubes cooking in my dad's old tube driven record player.
