Description
This is a re-mix of a song I did in my first year here. I suppose this song is a metaphor (if that's the right word)for our struggle with life's problems and symbolic of a stony, rocky path and jungle to get to the 'summit', but also an inward journey through life's problems too until we can reach the Heavenly state of Nirvana or Shangrila..... ending at the single point where all life begins and ends. (Hence Buddhist horns throughout) It's a good dance even if you don't buy all that, was played on midi and sung through the male to female vocal thing in GB. so it is me singing what sounds like the female parts and the chorus is whispered on this occasion.... get your dancing shoes on..... LOL

Lyrics
whispered chorus)
Over pebbles, stones and rocks that are on our way,
We must climb as a trial 'til that glorious day,
Through the jungles and the rivers and the Mountains high,
We must climbe so high till we reach the sky.
**************
As we go on our way, Oh so High,
Just close your eyes, let your mind be filled with light.

(whispered chorus)
*******
Just close your eyes, let your mind be filled with light,
Love lives right there and it's there for us to share.
Nirvana calls, and the ones who seek, will not fall.
(whisperd chorus) rptd
*******
Ad libbed heavenly voices)
Nirvana...... nirvana .....Shangrila..... nirvana

Just close your eyes, let your mind be filled with light,
Love lives right there and it's there for us to share
Nirvan calls and the ones who seek won't fall
repeat x2

wow!
Didn't expect such a heavy groove! :-)
Glad the lyrics were here on the page
It is a bit hard to hear the words, maybe a bit more work on the EQ or the place in the mix
Enjoyed though!

Hope I
didn't startle you to much KC LOL... really pleased you liked this. Regarding the volume on the whispers; I wanted the whispering to be as an inner thought, spurring the person on to higher things and I tried to do it so that the further on the road we go, the clearer things get (it's all clever stuff you know LOLOL). I hope that helps make a bit more sense of what I did or tried to do, regards M

Wow!

How much fun is this???!!! Too much..?

Mo - you chose 'other' as a genre...is that the 'Other Side Of Maurice' (good album name?) This is brilliant - I love your Arabian vibe, especially when you do the Liza Minnelli bits, ha ha!!!

2'36' hits a high - this is 'top of the roof' Manhattan club music to be played at the max level possible!!! Trance / dance excellence! Also glad you made it as long as it is - will be throwing shapes to this all day now!!!

Love it, M, just love it!!! Great surprise and another good reason to be back in the fold..

Cheers!!

Jim

Hi Jim
Yes, I chose 'Other' as the Genre, because I thought some might be turned off if I put it under 'Trance' (tho' you might think I was in one when I did this LOL) or' Dance Club' ,even though it would fit in either category. I figured it was listenable enough to be heard by more people than would listen if I'd put it under either of those genres; hence 'Other'.
I love your enthusiasm always over my songs and thank you for giving a listen; always much appreciated Jim, so thank you once again, regards M

Great display of production
Chunky, driving beats - full of Eastern promise. Maurice, you have cracked it and have proved why you are the epitome of Garageband / MacJams exponents. You give something for everyone.

Wonderful work - more of this please!

Journey to Nirvana
I didn't expect the 4 on the floor disco style beat, but the groove propels the song right along. The vocal transformer is crazy cool. The instruments chosen support the theme of the song really well, and the mix sounds good. Nice job!

Moviz said 2499 days ago (November 16th, 2010)
The beat
really does propel it along as you say Dave, which is what I wanted to give the feel of moving forward through life....... and the variation of the instruments and percussion as the changes we come across as we journey... glad you like the voice transformer too, as I wanted a female part for this and it would have been hard to describe what I wanted here, had a asked a female to do it. Thanks again, regards M

I'm Char(med) - again
Very cool piece you've got here. A few notes: People are going to bed around me now so I didn't play loud enough I guess, but I think the wispered words could be moved forward in the mix a bit. The female part of you sounds charming, reminds me a bit of Char actually! Though almost 8 minutes it didn't feel too long, which means you made it vary enough (where "real" trance freaks (sorry) might have pumped the same rythm all the way through?!) Might still be a pity to put it in Other. My guess is that more people with miss it that way than in a specific genre. But all in all, well done, Mo!

Take care,
Henke

Thanks Henke
for giving this the once over... glad you enjoyed and I explained above the reasons for the partly submerged whispers (the subconscious) and yes, with a little more vibrato it could be Char singing this LOL. It is long I know, but I wanted it to be like a journey with a prize at the end saying that all will be well even though the road may be rough. I also understand what you're saying about the trance 'freaks' (your words not mine LOL), though it's not entirely trance... I just thought I'd play it safe; although being a genre shifter myself, I look into and listen to all genre's. I'm not selective at all, but I know some are. Thanks again for the nice comments, regards M

Thank you Vic
for your very welcome comment about older guys being 'hip', though I must tell you that I was ballroom dancing, jitterbugging and Charlston-ing around the living room with my Aunts from the age of about 6 or 7 yrs old. I was about 16yrs old when the Rock and Roll thing burst on the scene and was jiving and bopping like mad, as well as singing my head off. The Rolling Stones and The Beatles, though younger than me, are my contemporaries music-wise.... In the Seventies I was playing and described locally as 'The Poor Man's Barry Gibb' LOL, so yes, I'm still hip LOLOL...... it was bred into me so to speak, but I thank you again for your encouragement and I intend to groove on as long as I can, regards M

Crazy!
Not at all what I was expecting. Creative use of garageband clips in here and very cool how you did the female vocals. it worked really well on your vocal. Doesnt work as well for mine for some reason. This is cool, a real departure for you, must have been fun!

Moviz said 2498 days ago (November 17th, 2010)
Thanks
for listening Charles. Yes it is a bit of a departure even for me LOL. The secrt I think of the male/female thing is to sing in your normal voice quite low and then it seems to translate more smoothly, though you can still hear a few minor cracks in my vocal recording caused by the transformer. It really was fun to do at the time.... thanks again for calling in, regards M

This is very different, yet still has your signature sound. At first I thought you were collabing with Char! I'm not familiar with this GB effect - it certainly is interesting. You are very good at creating music that makes ya move - this is no exception. Nice work Maurice - I enjoyed listening (to both of you :-)

Holy Cow M!
This is great! I looooove the grove. It drives so good! Kinda dance/club.

Killer vox. I had to do a double take when the female voice came through. That was badass!

My favorite of yours for certain.

This is some pretty heavy stuff.
Awesome!

Unusual
Not what I expected at all, Maurice. You really show a range here and it's a really GOOD one!!! Yes. A dance number all the way...almost kind of a frenzy in that the beat is unrelenting. I really like what you did with the background whispers and the female vocal. Very inventive and somewhat provocative. The one thing that is consistent about this recording is that it's YOURS: solidly mixed, solidly performed; and always with lyrics that make the listener think. Marvelous!
