Description
This song is my interpretation of a story a close friend told me about the final moments of a friend of his -- a rather well-known public religious figure. Rather than over-explain, I'll let the song speak however it may -- suffice it to say that this person, in her final moments encountered something, something that she recognized as "the one that I've always loved" and called this something Mother and Father. I was haunted for days by the story, and this song is my interpretation of it.

Lyrics
(*Sung in Latin)
Ubi Caritas et Amor, Deus ibi est
(Where love are charity are, God is there)

Journey's End, eyes open
Rest that is not sleep awakens understanding
Arms wide open, vision's clear now
Names new meaning, illusions fall away

Love's coming.

One I've loved, no longer dimly
Concept gives way, understanding

*Latin Text*

Mystical
This is is very beautiful, mystical, and spiritual. It has a quality of ancient music about it... I don't know much about genres, but I when I think of 'electropop' I think of something that is, well, "poppier", faster tempo, etc., sort of like the ending, I guess! Okay, now I get it... it becomes electropop-like at about 6:30.

Anyway, very creative job here, and terrific singing. You have really accomplished something quite wonderful here.

Electrochant
Very nice work here... great singing, intriguing idea for electronica-chant, compelling and dreamy.

I might drop the kick drum down ever so slightly, but other than that, nice clean recording, and gorgeous sung harmonies.

Drakonis

Very mellow
start. I do like the beginning very much. I have trouble seeing this as electropop... This is almost more ambient but that really doesn't matter. The latin vocals are amazing. You did a really great job on this!

The first 6 1/2 minutes
are magical. Surprised me, given the genre listed. The thump thump thump finish is indeed electropop, but ... well, never mind. You don't need a critique from me. I thought this was a fantastic debut. Welcome to MJ. Hope to hear more in the near future.

Ubi sunt qui ante nos fuerunt?
This is one sweet meditation on death and the stunning realizations it often invokes. Powerful vocal work.

Welcome to MacJams. ;)

Tammy's Song
This song takes you on a wonderfully hypnotic and spiritual journey. At first, to be honest I saw that the song takes over 9 minutes and was concerned about whether it could hold my interest - but nine minutes later all I could do was hit replay. Excellent vocals and interesting movement to your music - very much enjoyed - thanks for posting this, and welcome to macjams!

etherial
i like the chords - reminds me subliminally of some song from my youth

this is really etherial and intensely spiritual

the singing is spot on

thanks!

i would genre this as Other

somehow some of the vocal processing (during the multitracked parts) seemed a bit - something - distorted? dunno

Ubi Carritas...
What a significant opening piece to bring to the MJ community ~ welcome! I recently performed a similar version of Ubi Carritas during a Taize service, which is comprised primarily of music, prayer, chants, and meditation. Taizé, “the essential that makes the common life possible” is similar to MacJams....also a great refuge to showcase your gifts and listen...beautiful! ~barbara

We don't get a lot of Latin here
but I for one am glad you brought some: adds a touch of class. This is a really cool track.
Welcome aboard the good ship MacJams. Hope you enjoy your stay. This is an amazing first post.

Very nice harmonies
Awesome. Really loved this. Those voices are angelic when all those harmonies kick in. I see why the song is the way it is but the only suggestion I would make would be to make a version that develops a bit faster (as well as this one of course). I think if the song started with the voices at 1:26 it would be pretty dramatic and get to the meat of the song faster. The song from 3:34 through the incredible climax at 4:55 is incredible. Was hoping for a bit more of that. Great tune man, VERY impressive. Thanks for the download!

Well, now..
Im not a synth pop guy... That much is certain...
But, i am a singer with a deep respect for those who are proficient, and even amazing in their craft...
I hear alot of the greats in your voice- Geoff Tate, Freddy Mercury, James Labrie, and even a little early Rob Halford in your grittier delivery...
I wish i had time to create such a vocal masterpiece...
I would hope this is copywritten and for sale on itunes..
I would also consider trying to get the SyFy channel to pick this up for their new Battlestar Galactica prequel series... This is the moodieness and mix of upbeat that they might go for....
Well done.
Much respect..
Allen Dean
