I Saw Three Ships

Description
A traditional carol, from 17th Century England. No one knows who composed it, but some say that it may have originally been a bawdy tavern song. All a bit strange, as Bethlehem is around 40 miles from the sea. It's a tune I like anyway, and my offering for the holiday period.

Mixture of soft synths and a little bit of pin hole mic work from me. I can't sing, sorry, but I felt like doing it!

I love carols, in all their forms, and like this time of year because people upload their own interpretations of classic [imo] tunes.

Thanks again!

Will you rock around it? Or, like me, go all "Bah Humbug"?

Best!

Hi Dave......
This is a very nice rendition of ISTS. Enjoyed the arrangement 100%. Some lovely rich sounds in the mix. Fitting for three ships/kings to carry.

Christmas is now officially here for me.

Take care.

It's
an odd song isn't it? Lyric-wise that is. The kings could not have arrived by ship. Of course, they didn't arrive at all at the time of his birth, so I've heard. Wasn't it some time after? Assuming that you believe in all this! I'm saying nothing...

Thanks Paul, for dropping by. ;)

Perfect
piece to arrive home to after having accomplished this year's family baking of gingerbread cookies (-ish) with 14 people present.

Enjoyed it a lot. If I were to offer some mixing critique it would be to bring the arpeggio just a teeny bit to the back as not to drown the melody in a couple of places. But the sounds were sweet and "christmassy".

Thanks and take care,

Henke

Thanks Henke
Yes, I agree about the arp. I should indeed have tweaked the volume some, altered it in some places as you have suggested. I may do just that!

Gingerbread cookies? Nom nommy noms... :-)

It's certainly a beautiful melody, I'm glad you liked my rendition! I'd love to travel back in time, assuming that it was originally a bawdy tavern song, and listen to how all those drunken ale-drinkers performed it!

Three ships
Hi Dave, nice take on a well-known carol. You are right about those weird lyrics... "three ships sailing into Bethlehem"? Now there's optimism for you (or hallucinogens :-)) Thanks. Peter

I
often wonder about those early Christians. They must have be on something, eh? The originators of this tune surely were.

I first thought 'oh no a xmas song', however this is really good. I really like the sounds you've used and the use of the vocal makes me laugh which is always a good sign. Nice one, enjoyed.

Haul the decks .....
a nice change from the regular versions. Love the liquid sounding synths that come in around 1:35.
Have a great Xmas and an excellent 2011 Dave!

A wonderful rendition. Right in the spirit of things. No "Bah, humbug!" from me. Your voice does not match your picture. Hehe. Happy holidays to you and yours.

Thanks D. I was never big on Christmas, but oh! The tunes really get to me. I often go into a church just to hear those great organ swells. I really do like carols!
