Ain't Misbehavin'

Description
Many have asked: "Michael, how do you sound so peppy and obnoxious all the time?" To counteract that question, here is one that I recorded at about 2:30 am yesterday morning after one sleepless night, a very tiring and stressful day at work, standing out in the cold for 30 minutes waiting for a bus that was late, and then coming home to shovel about 600 pounds of snow off the sidewalk. If this appeals to anyone, I'll have to remember that regimen for the next one!

"Ain't Misbehavin'" was written by Thomas "Fats" Waller in 1928, currently PD (and the original 1929 recording of "Ain't Misbehavin'", by Fats Waller received the Grammy Hall of Fame Award in 1984, it was one of fifty recordings selected for inclusion in the National Recording Registry by the Library of Congress in 2004.

Arrangement and accompaniment: Alan McPike
Vocal: MJK
Artwork: Obviously the end of the world from the looks of things! All that's missing from that moon is Jackie Gleason's face!

This is dedicated to Saltaireguru's dad.

Wonderful
To my ears, you always sound nothing short of spectacular. This is just beautiful, perfect song to guide me into Dreamland. A gumby would help too, just saying...

You da bestest!

Well, I think I've discussed with you in the past how nervous I get singing slow tempo ballads and stuff like that, so there's a probability that being somewhat zombified at the time I did this helped mitigate my anxiety! This was my dad's favorite song (and I understand that Saltaire's dad is a big Fats Waller fan too, so it was a pleasure to slap this up!) You take good care and hope you're feeling much, much better! Michael

Grazie!
Provo generalmente a evocare un umore per una canzone quando lavoro Falcef. Infatti, lo descrivo spesso gradico una scena di film e quella ha aiutato le mie attivita molte un momento. Udienza apprezzata da voi! Ora ciao, Michael

beeweave me
this is beautiful! Wow Michael, If I do a cover it has to be at the very least as good as the original but it should be better, and yours are as good and often better than the original crooners, and that is saying a lot as we all know, I love the vinyl feel on this production, And you sing this by far better than any version I've heard and I love this song! Great great vocal performance, for the love of Richard man start gigging out and making the big bucks, just find a place with a piano and sit down and take that town by storm!

Hi JD
Normally, this song is usually presented as an upbeat, up tempo kind of thing, so I very much enjoyed trying my hand with something more in a ballad form, BeWEaVe me! I just wish I had more time to come up with the little tricks and things that Michael Buble works into his vocals, but yanno, time is limited and I'm such an alacritous sort of bozo! As always, you are much too kind--thanks again! Michael

Good grief!
Three times and you survived long enough to write a comment too! Bless you Lyn! I'm glowing so much right now that we are getting complaints from the neighbors. Thanks so very much! (and I may use that very fine picture you've treated me to next time around!) You take care now, xox Michael

Window on Fats
Really enjoyed this! My father (now passed into greater life) was a big jazz fan, with an incredible talent (where it all went wrong in the next generation has always been a bit of a puzzle!) and this gentle, beautifully sung piece has brought his warm presence back in a very pleasant way.

i am in a sort of movie set; i think Humphrey Bogart is around somewhere and i'm sure Edward G Robinson just swallowed a large whisky the wrong way at the next table, if his expression is any judge.

Great stuff, Michael, you underrate yourself.

Thanks so much.

Thanks Marc!
One thing I've enjoyed and finding out is that many of these old tunes seem to be still particularly cherished and enjoyed where you and other artists here live in the world (and I'm proud to say I can discuss the old time British jazz music with almost anyone from that neck of the woods too!) As a movie buff, I really appreciated that smoke-filled tableau you limned there! Well, I think most people SHOULD be modest about anything they do--it's the ones that think they are geniuses that never improve, but I really appreciated your nod Marc--thanks so very much! Michael

music is our way to unwind and let sanity seep back into the brain. Nice treatment. I love your phrasing and playing around the beat. Trying to figure out how you do that...

Hi Henry
Really, I'm not even aware when I'm doing that with moving around the beat, but I suppose years of playing piano has helped me keep an "inner metronome" of sorts--I'm not sure! Greatly appreciated hearing from you and if I've not mentioned it earlier, you are an immensely excellent addition to the ranks here. Thanks again and take good care now, Michael

Late
Late at night after all that stress... you still sound awesome. This is fantastic singing. Great playing by Alan McPike too... now that I've seen him at work a bit, I'm super impressed with what he's able to pull off playing solo. I can't keep up with your postings, Michael, but whenever I check in you've got excellent new tunes!

Hahahahahaha...I've been really belting them out here lately, but just trying to get some older stuff laying around out before I begin a new season of belting the same things out for next year (I just sing when I can find the time and take advantage of it), but this one is new. Yeah, sometimes I listen to the things Alan does on that Bespoke Organ and the virtual instruments he plays--they sound SO real I can almost here somebody taking breaths! Glad you like this and as always, I am so very appreciative of your encouragement and support (I have so much to learn yet!) You take care now, Michael

Ah you shoulda seen the old man's face when he saw this! He's been over visiting before Christmas and I got to show him a lot of the site and to be sure he loved all your stuff, so to see one dedicated to him was just superb. I've burned him a CD of some of his favourites so he can listen whenever. P.s. I loved it too!
