Lyrics
Colfax Ave

The good the bad
The glad the sad
Preachers, sinners
Losers and winners
The rich the poor
Pimps and whores
The dirty the clean
The kind the mean

A street of sorrow
A street of pain
A street of loss
A street of shame

Colfax Avenue you call my name
Street of heroes, street of shame
A place to lose, a place to win
A place for good, a place to sin

The more you loose
The more you gain
The street may give
Or cause much pain
A fortune made
A soul to lose
Wise to avoid
Played by fools

A street of sorrow
A street of pain
A street of loss
A street of shame

I’ve lost my heart
I’ve lost my mind
I’ve lost my self
I’ve lost in kind
You bring me luck
You bring me pain
You bring the sunshine
You bring the rain

The street sees the best
And the street sees the worst
It creates fortunes
It creates the curse
Corvettes, Hondas
Mercedes, Junkers
Mini vans, Harleys
Pimped rods, clunkers

Colfax Avenue you call my name
Street of heroes, street of shame
A place to lose, a place to win
A place for good, a place to sin

You make me laugh
You make me cry
You make me live
A place to die
A place to run
A place to hide
A place for love
A place to ride
The good the bad
The glad the sad
Preachers, sinners
Losers and winners
The good the bad
The glad the sad
Preachers, sinners
Losers and winners

Yep
No description needed!
Your bass playing is so cool and recognisable. Almost as wicked as your riffing.
Great tune, makes me wanna pack my bags and head for Colfax Avenue.
Super solo.
Love the clunkers section.....
FIRST!

Thanks Ed
for dropping by and having a listen. I've been writing songs lately from the bass up. I don't know why, but it has felt better writing guitar parts around the bass rather than the opposite.

Colfax Ave is in Denver Colorado. It runs the entire length of Denver. I spent a lot of time there when I was a delinquent growing up.

for dropping by and having a listen to this mania.

The bass flowed pretty well on this one. I like when that happens. Normally I struggle with the bass parts a bit.

There are still some loose ends to clean up in this song.

I'll probably get back to those another time.

Eddie, all of your stuff has that cool, old school feel. This is no exception, love the use of vocal effects for effect. Nice bass playing man! Cool post!

I pretty much always seek out gear that has a vintage tone. I used my stratocaster this time which definitely sounds vintage. The preamp I'm using now also has a very distinctive vintage tone.

Thanks for listening.

Colfax Ave
Sweet driving groove anchored by that chugging bass. Nice shredding, great job on the drums.
Vocs are effective, especially with the harmonies on the chorus. Terrific tone on the guitars.

This is the first song that I've put some distortion on the stratocaster. Man it sounds great through the Mesa Boogie. I wish that I had used it earlier. The tone it has leaves more room for the bass guitar to come through in the mix.

I wrote this song from the bass up. I'm finding that its easier to write guitar parts around the bass rather than figuring out bass parts for guitars. It adds more funkiness for me to do it that way.

Loved this compact, sturdy and full throttle effort from ya Mike--I'd probably add about the same as the rest of the gang about the bass work (great job!) and it was a standout within a very well executed and stylish track. Thanks again--and keep them coming! Michael

This time I used my Stratocaster and kept the PRS on the shelf. The strat running through the Mesa Boogie sounds killer. Plus it was recorded using a tube mic and a Universal audio preamp. I think that the guitar signal ran through a total of 12 tubes all together. That's a whole lotta tubes! LOL.

for having a listen.

There are some mixing issues. I broke the cardinal rule and posted the song too early. The lead guitar is a bit too behind in the mix and some of the vox are too far forward. Also, I'm still learning to control the compression in the preamp for vocals. I'm still recording it a bit too thick.

I made some mixing errors in this one. I should have had you listen to this before I posted it. A second set of ears would have been made the mix better.

Oh yeah, I love surf music. It seems pretty innocent but there is always something ominous in the background. I think that's why Tarrentino likes to use surf songs in his sound tracks.

Thanks man.

Colfax
ave, the longest street in America. Dammit, you beat me to the punch on writing a song about "The Fax" in our home town! Thats ok, there are a million stories on Colfax, plenty of misery to go around. Actually, East Colfax is not as seedy as it was only adecade ago, there is a spreading urban hipness happening there, Irish pubs, posh Gay bars, dozens of music venues, upscale eaterys etc. But the Crack heads, prostitutes and spectres of the night still haunt "The Fax". Your lyrics have certainly captured the old hopelessness and sense of danger of Colfax at the wee hours. I love bass line as your foundation, interesting way to write. Great Axe tracks throughout, I think I would pull the Vox forward just a tad, especially in the chorus section, in my headphones I barely hear the low voice harmony, but that could be just my ears failing me.
Really a great track Mikey, love the hometown subject matter!

Awesome!
