Lyrics
Riding On Stone Ponies

we rode the concrete and pavement on our backs
and you…you said you would
we rolled stones down the middle of the street
and you…you rolled with it
here the cobblestone is in our face
and you said you could handle it

we're riding on stone ponies
and we're heading to the setting sun
we're dragging and we're lagging
and we turn to stone

knew every pothole and crack in the stereo
and you..got over it
we took the detours and landed on our feet
and you…had it made
we burned the gas and left the fumes
and you said you could handle it

we're riding on stone ponies
and we're heading to the setting sun
we're dragging and we're lagging
and we turn to stone

rusted metal and hubcaps at the curb
and you…you felt your age
one more mile and we'll call it a night
and you..idled away
and you pushed that one more mile
and you said you could handle it

we're riding on stone ponies
and we're heading to the setting sun
we're dragging and we're lagging
and we turn to stone

we're riding and we're riding
and we're riding away
we're riding on stone ponies

Intrigued . . .
Much intrigued by the lyrics . . . those are some of the best I've seen on MJ! The chorus has an explosive abandon that complements the understated verses nicely--really good contrast. I like the parallel guitar melodies in the bridge. The Scorpions did something similar in "Winds of Change" during the bridge, and I totally love that effect.

i had the "stone ponies" in my head. i started ad libbing vocals when i was setting up the vocal track for levels. the chorus came right off the bat. the rest i scribbled down rather quickly. usually it takes me forever

Great guitar work
Hi Vic. The great guitar work is the standout feature of this track for me. The chorus sits up and begs to be played LOUD. Thanks for the posting. Regards, Peter.

i had the song worked out (on acoustic yet) so laying down the guitar tracks was pretty quick. adjusting the logic amp settings did take a while to zero in.

The opening just drew me in, what a terrifically haunting musical-bed. Dig the guitars & vocals, and I love the 80's Hair-Band vibe this has. Great stuff!

Big tune
I would guess you had written the lyrics before the tune.

Love the crisp guitars. Very original writing.

Your voice sounds especially nice on this one. I think you might have done something different?

Also, like the Stevie Miller-esque intro. Now, that's a name that seems to be forgotten.

Classic Vic.

the lyrics started out as ad libbing when i was check the recording balance. the chorus came out right from the start, i was pretty much righting them on the spot, that rarely happens for me. vocal nothing different, some styles or a certain key i can sound a bit different on delivery

actually driving to work in the steve miller seems to come on the car radio quite a bit.maybe a bit to much

wow
love the fx that you have coming in and out here. you have really become the production master. so much to like here: love the harmony gtrs on the chorus (very new wave of british heavy metal), the drums sound greeeat (what are you using?).

nice chord changes for the solo. damn your guitar sounds great. the only thing I know about Stone Ponies is that I thought Linda Ronstadt was hot when I was a lad; frikkin great track.

awesome track vic.

the dual harmony guitars is what i picked up, learning the guitar from wishbone ash & shencker
(now you know why i mentioned them at FB)

the drums are logics midi roadhouse set. some of the drums have that double bounce from the sticks
