Description
Something for my 6 year MacJammiversary...only a few days late. Nothing serious here, just playing around...wanted to do something a little more bouncy and uptempo than the usual orchestral treatment.

This hearkens back to my roots in the 70s; lots of Moogish synths, Hammond, Rhodes, and (expecially for you Ed) some Mellotron (Yes Strings and Mk II Flutes). The main drums are from some loops and the secondary 808 percussion is programmed into Ultrabeat. The solo in the middle was played on a free version (only 200 presets) of Arturia Analog Factory.

Got a chance to program some classic sounding stuff using the ES1 synth in logic, which does a great job at creating that old school analog sound without being complicated to program.

I did use one actual orchestral sound...I snuck a Timpani in there to reinforce a couple of hits and the screeching guitar was courtesy of the M3. Anyway, hope you enjoy it.

hope
to be here when you recycle that 6 in three years :-) Congrats Graham. Nice silky synth work that captures the vibe. For me little flashs of Rick Wakeman in there.

Happy 6th!
Yeah, yeah, baby Bubowski: you do this so well. A real delight Graham: nice sounds (drones, buzzes, twangs and twinkly bits) and rhythms. I like the percussive rhythm of some of the synths contrasted with the breakbeats. Downloaded (of course), thanks.

Then you can dance to it!
I had a discussion with my 15 year old whether this was dance-able or not. Guess that answers that! :-) Glad you guys liked it.

Man based on this I'd love to collab w/u on something! This is really extremely well done, the best I've heard in this vein!

I'm open to suggestions...
You have a great voice and are a great songwriter. Let me know what you're thinking of. If you listen to my other tracks you'll note that I have a lot of longer more elaborate music...not sure what type of collab you'd like to do. Just a warning...I've really only done one collab here so I don't have that much experience with how to work one.

Happy 6th
Hmmm, odd but I'm not sure I've ever heard your music. I've only been here like 7 months, but do a hec of a lot of listening and backtracking on older stuff on MJ.

Nonetheless, this is very cool. Kind of like Dance/Trance with a splash of Ambient. Great stuff!

Midsummer Grove...
I think you commented on the collab I did with VicDiesel called The Midsummer Grove. So you have heard my stuff...I did the arranging/orchestration and all the backing tracks to Vic's flute playing. Thanks for dropping by for a listen.

Love the Moog sounds...
I'm just so impressed that you can do orchestral arrangements and then arrange something like this as well! You have a really nice, rich and spacious sound in this mix... aurally delicious!
I especially like the 'middle' section--from about 1:58 to 3:20.

Happy MacJammiversary! :)

Thanks Mysti!
The middle section is definitely my favorite. I love that weird slide guitar sound mixed in with the 70's prog instrumentation. Thanks for coming back to comment.

Enjoyed and downloaded
This is excellent, Graham, which is of course no surprise. Great use of the retro sounds. I particularly enjoyed the pacing of this piece, the journey you took us on. Your material is always dynamic and compelling, and this song is that and interesting and fun. Congratulations on a very appropriate composition celebrating six years of great contributions to this community.

Synth magic
I'm not really a child of the synth, so a lot of what you say in the description is like a foreign language to me but I enjoyed this a LOT! I am in awe of the imagination (and skill) required to put something like this together. Thanks!. Happy 6th anniversary from a 2 month veteran :). Regards, Peter.

Good....but it needs more mellotron....
Aside from that glaring omission, this is a marvelous celebration of your 'Six-ies'....

So many cool sounds, a great, swaying groove, and a really neat sense of space, both left to right and back to front.... It feels like there's air in the mix, and that gets shortchanged a lot in synth based tracks...Everything ends up in one plane.... In this, the pulsing seems to really pulse, front to back... It sounds alive....

There are some very Peter Gabriel moments in this...

If you wrote some lyrics for it, Dani could sing the livin' stuff out of it...

And as is, I'm ploppin' it into the iPod before you pull this for your pop debut...

One final thought: MORE MELLOTRON!

On the next one, anyway....

Bubowski said 2327 days ago (December 14th, 2010)
Even More Mellotron?
That sounds like a challenge!

I like your anniversary results... It would be nice to hear this on your set up. The mix sounds great. Some of the keys sounded like Wakeman. Thanks for sharing.

Lots of nice sounds
like the vocal sounds and how you embedded it in the tune. Like the electronic sounds and the movement from ear to ear etc.

Like those swishes and the list goes on, like the high noon electric guitar as it goes later then moving in with a bit of synth wah. Thanks for sharing, looks like you really did a lot of fun experiments. Like how you put that high noon electric guitar to work !

well first of all
Holy Happy MacJammiversary! Six years is impressive! So is this tune. Really great stuff, I love your manipulation of the beats, and the different "moods" the piece morphs through. Some pretty awesome synths in here and great playing. Sounds like you had a ton of fun and that really comes through in the music. Very cool Graham!
