Oh Moody Night

Description
This song gets it's musical inspiration from our very own Chris Boros. I have tried contacting him to cover his recent song Better Than Here for the covers challenge - but have gotten no response. So - halfway into working out his tune I took a major left turn and it morphed into something completely different with new lyrics - structure - etc. Being close to the holidays I decided to give it a peppermint twist in homage to The Moody Blues.
To of the guitar tracks were played with metal objects. What sounds sort of like a violin in the beginning is the E string being bowed with the shaft of a steel sculpting tool. The chiming chords are created by open tuning the guitar to the proper chord and striking it with the whammy bar of my guitar. The rest is crystal synth and some mangled drum loops. Oh - and ankle bells.
Happy Holidays!
And thanks Chris - for the inspiration.

Lyrics
tracing an ever lower course
and meager in it's glowing warmth
colder grow the nights
and steel defines the day
deeper into winter's grip we fall
and fall into each others arms
before the fires
and tables laid with hearty fare
we gather and sing
drink and be merry
this time will pass
but not in a hurry

Actually the bells were too small for my anke -
belonged to my daughter when she was 5. So I had them in my hand. I know - not the same picture.

Where else could it go but into Budland? Not everyone admits to ankle bells.

i'm really hoping
you were wearing the ankle bells in order to record them. this is awesome. those drums at 1:25 moving the song into the next stage are just killer. Love the opening, with that bowed string. Surprisingly, even with all that is going on and the intensity of the piece, I still found it to be relaxing. This is a BIG sound. Very cool.

I'm glad it was still relaxing
that means a lot to me. Nothing was meant to shock or disorient - I just wanted to shift gears here and there. I will need a larger pair of ankle bells for my next foray.

Kevin,
I strongly recommend you take left turns, as many times as you want, you can even make a tour around the block !

This is truly amazing, and I know, it's only repeating myself.

Left turns - that's like playing by
NASCAR rules - o you have NASCAR in Belgium? Hope not - for your sake. Uh oh -I might be getting in trouble with the Texicans now. Better just say thanks - and that's it.

I like the spoken verse. Bowing the e string is creative and sounds cool. Square on target for a holiday homage to the MB's.

Right at 1:30 I'm bowing all six strings
at the twelfth fret. Gotta find a piece of steel with some texture for it to work nice. I'm looking into some big bar magnets to see what I can do next. Already been messing with the alligator clips. Hell - winter brings out some strange behavior. Nice of you to drop in.

Steel defines the day
Not sure what that means. But it's intriguing, This really surprised me, given the genre. But sure. Why not? Excellent orchestration. Quite creative. Refreshingly so.

neat song, really liked the drum breaks around 1:20 to 1:40, those were perfect.

impressive mix of sonic elements, mixing synthesizers and guitars together effectively always seems hard to me, but you do it very well.

I just listened to your version of Better Than Here. After I did, I listened to Chris' version. Amazing how you've constructed two different pieces. I like how you didn't harm any guitar picks in this song. The inventive methods produced some intriguing sounds.
