At Christmas Time - 2010 edition

 Genre: Rock

Get Flash to see this player.

Here is this years Christmas collab. It's a re-do of the first Christmas collab I made, and you can find the first version here.

In this years collab I've had the great pleasure of working with musicians from Australia, Canada, USA and of course Norway. Actually there are three Norwegian macjammers who have joined this year. Bent, Selters and myself thoddi.

Further more we have the lovely Sisters, Alannah, Damiengh, and Jiguma.

The sax solo Damiengh is responsible for, and wow, I think he did a fantastic job.

The rest of the instrumental stuff is swept together by yours truly. A bit delayed, but not too late... Here's this years Christmas collab:)

At Christmas time
Thor Oliversen © 2005

Come home, no need to fear
you will do fine
We'd love to see you here
at christmas time.

And everyone will be
a friend - you'll find
and you will be with me
at christmas time

Oh keep your faith
No one will make a fuzz
It's not too late
'cause you are one of us.

Now will you choose to come
not hide in fear
To be with everyone
at christmas time

You should know that we all care
Do you think we don't know how it is
Would you be there if I needed you
'cause I know you would...

from the first opening broken guitar chord - I had to catch it twice - it was such a nice opening statement - which ties in well with every element - bass coming in accentuating the minor 7th, complimenting the
well woven work - this is just jam packed with goodies - whispering thick unique vocals - wah wah guitar - such vocal variety within one song - there is so much zest here -
the question / answer type vocals make it exciting - also nice variety in vocal dynamics - of course the choice michigan sax is perfect in complimenting these breathy vocals.
Slapping percussion is just right -
this 5 minutes went too fast -
long drawn-out upper harminies are rhythmically unique & just the opposite of being blocky - well chosen and round it out so well

Yeman - i'm here to tell you i LOVED your now gone guitar solo on this = guess i'll just have to buy your album and hope that's a bonus track. 8) Good to hear you sing again - your vocal added so much to WILLOW - lovely to have you here, too.

Neil - you might have the most distinctive voice on the planet. I love the way you made the melody your own. YOU SING GOOD, BROTHER, and always improve anything you're part of.

Alannah - could you possibly have sung this with more heart? i'll answer that with a resounding NO! your yummy vibrato and deep down there voice is perfect among all the manliness.

Damien, every time I hear you sing, I wonder why you are so darned stingy with your voice. DON'T MAKE US BEG! (well ok, just a teensy beg…?) As to your sax - wonderfully elegant!

Thor - you lead us all with a wonderful confidence.
Your vocal is strong and sure - cool phrasing - and the music is a truly spiffing blend of the right elements. i like the touch of strings and the organ sounds right on!

I'm a Happy Sister to be part of this.

Seamlessly melded
What a great collaboration!. It really is impressive how the combined talents of MJ'ers have been seamlessly melded into this sentimental but positive song. It sounds great and has numerous elements that add interest and polish. Congratulations to all concerned. Regards, Peter.

I so wish I could have been in on this one (and thank you for the invite). My how the time gets short around the holidays!

Even though we're almost three weeks removed from Christmas, this is a delight to listen to. The "We Are The World" paradigm (where the singer shifts from line to line) works best in uplifting songs like this one. The bed sounds great and Damien's sax is spot on.

Thanks for breathing new life into what is a bit of a MacJams classic and sharing it with everyone.
