Description
Last year a dance troupe asked me to write and perform a piece with them. I've always been a fan of contemporary classical music and that flavor seemed to suite what they had in mind. Live, I perform this piece strictly as a solo guitar piece, but for the recording I threw in a few ambient noises.

Avant Garde
I'm really enjoying this piece. It's like a winding journey with little surprises popping out of the ether. It's got a very "hip" vibe. Thanks for posting.

Restrained.
Did the dance have to do with awakening or discovery? That's quite an honor to have your music interpreted in dance. Almost famous, right? Thanks for letting us hear you play and thump.

the world of dance...
It was an honor indeed. I was so fascinated watching to beauty and movement, I never thought to ask what the dance was about. (They wanted to me to improvise to their movement) The world of dance is a 'culture shock' to a reserved being.

Really nice
Quality recording, wonderful chromaticism. Love the little jazzy chords thrown in there with the more out-there elements. Very Eric Satie-like.

Satie, yes!
Thanks Bubowski, I'm a fan of Satie. 3/4 time on the guitar is just beauty waiting to happen.

hi miche. this is fabulous. it's got such an intimate quality and wow that fingerwork. i was worried whether the background noises would distract but they really come into their own for the big percussive part. the urgent section at 2.40 is incredibly powerful and fierce...and then seamlessly you flow back to the themed cool riff. the pure percussion section at 3.40 is a dream....it's so perfectly in time. how long did that take - it would have taken me forever...no wait - i'd never have got there.
the fingerwork continues to be incredible - it also sounds like you're playing the most perfectly constructed guitar. and i love the squeak of your hands across the fret-board...i always like to hear that - you can hear the movement and that makes it more real and potent. that was nearly seven minutes and i was hooked for the night. a truly exceptional creation - i am so in awe of your talent. i hope the world gets a chance to share in it.

Thanks mate.
Wow. Thanks floyd. : ) I think the guitar is a great percussion instrument.
This project was tricky, the troupe had a gig in NYC, but I wasn't able to go. So they asked me if I would record the song. That wasn't going to be so easy, because what I played was based on watching them them as they danced.
The last show we did was recorded but the audio was lame, so I had to base the recording on everything I played on that recording. It had to be just under 7 minutes. It's always a challenge to try to recreate something that was done spontaneously. It was fun though. Thanks again Julian.

Ps. FYI: That recording project is about to get started. Nashville fell through, but other things have fallen in place. I'll keep you posted.

Only 4 fans?
This deserves many more.

I love the different textures and techniques you've used.

Splendid picking and clever and subtle "effects".

A real pity we don't have the video to go with it.

5 gold stars from the British judge :-)

Cheers

Dick

Thank you DWL, I guess this mean I'll continue on the show in the next season. lol. It's so great to have to opportunity to have some place to put our music. No one would ever hear this stuff otherwise. I'm really grateful.

Impressive piece. Bet those chords have more symbols and numbers then letters :) I like the way you brought in the percussion by hitting the guitar.

Impressive work. I really like the build up and release of tension on this piece - the percussive elements help that along as well. Almost 7 minutes? I hardly noticed - thanks for this - very enjoyable -

Thank you Sigmund, I don't think I've ever had a piece as long as 7 minutes. The troupe said this one one of their shorter dances. Phew

My wife and I...
...are big fans of dance. This is a really fine piece, Miche. Love to have seen it performed. It's really something seeing people put movement to your music.
Kudos

This is my favorite thing I've heard in your whole catalog on MJ's. I'm a bit partial to instrumentals tho. I love it.

Miche
Its been a while since I stopped by. Lots of different moods here. I love the transitions and the tempo changes. I imagine the dancers had some fun with that. Also some trademark Miche slappa-tap rhythms. I think this piece has more devices of tone tempo and rhythm than I have heard in a piece in a long time. Very well done. Hope all is well with you.

This is wonderful!
Hi Miche. Freddy mentioned that you might be interested in doing some harmonies on a song we are working on. That would be fantastic. It have really liked your two latest efforts but I thought I would catch some of your earlier work that I missed. This piece is wonderful! The creativity that has gone into it is amazing. The guitar tone and technical work is first-rate. Really enjoyed it!. I will PM you re the possible collaboration. Take care, Peter.

Dance piece
I'm a big fan (of both dance and this piece). My wife was a ballerina. I've always loved the visual and music connection. This is excellent. Do you have a video of a performance?

Wow
This really is a beautiful piece you've written. I love the movement of the chords and the 7ths in the bass (is that what I'm hearing?)... there's something magical and yet spooky about it. The sparse incidental sounds are a nice touch and don't at all seem out of place. Well done!
