Description
Thanks to all here who put up with my antics.
You guys are really patient with dolts like me.
This is typical fasteddie huggamugga.
Enjoy!

I'm sure there will be something that I'll regret not fixingg after posting the song. That's how it always goes. Oh well. Here it is as it is. It is what it is.

Lyrics
One for the Ages

Time
To Fight

A century past
A blink of the eye
An eagle is soaring
Against blue sky
Trees are rooted
In soil concrete
Be like the eagle
Not like the tree

(chorus)
A cross to bear
A road to endure
Motive untainted
A heart that’s pure
Grievous burdens
Too immense for one
Many are needed
To see the job done

The reward is great
The peril is vast
Unlike anything
Seen in the past

One for the Ages
It’s time to fight
One for the Ages
To do what’s right
Now it’s time
To make a stand
For each other
To lend a hand

The beast of burden
Rears its ugly head
Be the eagle
Or hope is dead
A tunnel deep
We dig ourselves out
A fight together
Time to stand stout

(Chorus)

There’s a big round table
Where the great minds meet
Their words are hushed
The members discrete
Making the choices
That affects us all
Not really caring
Who takes the fall
A battle comes near
So ready your sword
It’s time for action
Not just for words
So don’t sit idle
Get onto the task
No longer a question
No need to ask

Riffmeister!!
Love that Iommi riff! Fantastic. Feels like the vocal is a bit too high in the mix - I want to feel that killer guitar tone blasting my head into small boney fragments and embedding them in the wall. Brilliant!!!

Thanks Mr Bacon Jr
Thats cool that you dropped by.

What's strange is that I tend to mix metal like pop. I also tend to lay the guitars backa bit to make room for the bass.

I'll get better with time.

Glad you enjoyed the skull crushing goodness man!

The riffs and busy drums brings to mind early Black Sabbath, particularly the riff at 4:03. Why is it I get the feeling both you and I spent a lot of time listening to Sabbath Bloody Sabbath when we were young? Quality production and mix.

Yes
I loved Sabbath. My favorite album was "Heaven and Hell". I really loved Dio too. too bad I just can't belt out a song like that guy.

Thanks man
I worked for about 10 hours programming the drums to this song.

It takes me about an hour's worth of work to get 30 seconds of drum tracks now. I don't like repeating anything any more. It gives the song more of a "live drummer" feel. If you're serious about singing on this one, just pm your email and I'll send a bare track of just instruments.

Sabbath comparisons
abound....definitely so for the riffage...the vox not quite so brummy... but that's never a bad thing.Way to rock !!

Yeah, I don't sound anything like Ozzy or Dio. Those guys could really sing.

As always, thanks for dropping by and having a listen.

Nothing wrong with
your singing mate ...what I meant is there was no hint of Ozzies Birmingham ( West Midlands ) accent.....which is a good thing aye...

That's
a great intro, very heavy riffing, sounds great, did you tune down a semitone to play this?
Takes me back to early 70's Black Sabbath, I like the vocals, a really great song and very much enjoyed, thanks for the download.

huggamugga - don't know that word. this isn't typical stuff from you...it's almost folky. is this a social comment on where america is at the moment? you can answer by private message if you prefer.
i liked this one michael....is was less thrashy than others and the mix seems clearer. those lead guitar licks at the end were very interesting....in fact i think this is probably my favourite track of yours....especially in terms of the musical construction. just read smokey's comment and was just about to say i thought the vocals could have been more forward....but then that's probably because i've never been in a band. nice one dude.

I will be doing the folk song challenge soon. That will be very interesting.

I usually don't write protest songs.

This one kind of just happened.

Oh yeah, huggamugga is a slang term that could be translated into "a whole lot of BS".

Hey man, really nice tune sort of Sabbath/Deep Purple. Really good riffing and you have a sort of festival sound going on! Can imagine this is how it would sound live in an open air amphitheatre, good tune man well done

Perfect title, as it totally brings back so many cool heavy metal teen memories. Great sounding guitars, and I really like those in your face vocals. Nice production too. This was such fun! Thanks!

Very cool
I second the sabbath reference. there is always a little fasteddie vibe in there too though. Rocking guitar and great bass tone. The one nit I would make is the snare sound. it seems underpowered for such a powerful song. Great tune man!

awesome
Thanks for pointing that out. I usually don't eq the snare drum. I will have to do that to try and get more punch out of it. I guess it does need to have the high and low end lifted a bit. Or maybe I'll search the snare list next time and see if there is a heavier sounding snare to use in the kit.

I know
I had written the lyrics to this song before that freak Jared Loughner shot Gifford's in the head. What a horrible tragedy!
The line "So ready your sword" I hope is taken metaphorically.

I just hope that some freak doesn't take a stupid fasteddie song serious and pull another crazy act like Jared Loughner did. Maybe I should lighten up a bit.

Michael, I always look forward to your posts to see what edge you are standing on this time...The Black Sabbath references are dead on!... but if I might compare this to another more modern act with the same riff crazy driving punch you in the face style...it would be Queens of The Stone Age. I think you got a formula here that works, keep doing it man!...Nice bass too bro!

Far removed...
Hi Michael. This is far removed from my acoustic offerings but I turned it up loud and rocked along with all the others who have commented. Love the riff, the bass and the protest vibe. I didn't go the Black Sabbath/Alice root in my youth but I appreciate the style more now. Thanks for the posting. Regards, Peter.

it's a real blast
and the drums here are fantabulicious .
effective open 5th vocal harmony midway bridge work triples the effect
these slightly anticipated guitar barred chords add a cutting edge in the last part -
& solo guitar lyc. really reach out - like this echoed panned vocal section nearing midway - could easily foretell an approaching end - snazzy wind-up -
good endings are hard to come up with

Long time coming this comment!
Guitars are filthily thick. This is full of tasty licks and special touches. The bass @ 1.56 is swell.
Vocal panning and effects work really well.
Excellent, although I felt a butt trumpet wouldn't have gone amiss :)

Retro metal goodness. I agree with the others on the Sabbath reference. Topically it is different then your usual slice of life in the underbelly. Sort of a dramatic call-to-arms. Great riffs as usual and you are aces with the drum programming.

Sorry I missed this earlier. I was AWOL for a while. Enjoyed this a lot. The first 35 seconds is one of your best moments, in my humble O. That first chord change is very powerful. I might have sat on that part a while longer, but then I'm weird. I think the guitars are mixed right. I would bring the bass up. Hahaha. It's always something. I'm not getting a Sabbath vibe so much here. Some of the note combinations, yeah, but it's not the BS sound. Sounds more like you. And that's a good thing, actually. Lots o' work on the drum track. Serious stuff.
