I Gaze into a Still Pond and Find Infinity

Description
This track is the last thing I recorded in 2010 - on the evening of the 30th actually. It is the last improvisation from a magical Under the Piano session. The client, Ann, came and we spent a good hour reminiscing about the year we were about to complete and then what we would would like to create. I think this and a deepening appreciation for Ann resulted in a beautiful space in which to create music. While much of my music is very calm and soothing in nature there seemed to be an even deeper level of peace and stillness that night. That was certainly my experience. It is one of the things I love about improvising - having a powerful and tangible memory of the creation of the music in the moment.

Nice
Enjoyed this mood music very much. To me it conveyed slow, easy motion rather than total stillness, like a punt on a sunny river moving unhurriedly with occasional leanings on the pole, or a narrowboat chugging leisurely down a country canal, with all day to pass fields and gentle hills, with friends and a hamper full of good things on board!

Enjoyed it. Thanks.

Great to see this!
I was pleasantly surprised to get your message. i jumped right over and listened then the message seemed to not have gone through. This is a beautiful piece, it sways back and forth. It is your touch on the keys I love so much. Every nuance is so well executed. This is one of your best, deep and complex. Brooding at times but hopeful ultimately. Thank you for posting again Craig. You are a great player.

This song...
captures peacefulness like no other I have heard in quite a long time. It just floats with a mesmerizing pace into which the listener sinks. No fanfare, no frills, no statements, no agenda...Perfect.
(Unlike you, I always seems to immediately forget just about everything when I improvise...It's here...and then...it's...just...gone.)

forgetting
Hi Paul, your comments are appreciated and treasured. You are such an amazing composer and performer. That's interesting about forgetting. I'm not sure how I remember. I think I tend to use the harmonic sequence as my foundation for remembering. Often when I come back to a melody the reiterations are not exactly the same as the original idea but close enough to be recognised as the same melody.

It seems we live in a world that has largely forgotten the value of beauty. But beauty is important. Beauty is invaluable because in the presence of beauty we are transported into the moment. In that moment all our fear, anxiety, anger and concern di... [see more]
