Description
Bryn had put a beautiful time stretched acapella vocal piece in our shared dropbox and I really liked it very much. dumped it in Logic and did a few manipulations: slowing and stretching, reversing it, adding reverb and recording, reversing it back again, layering the same vocal track but staggering it so the tracks didn't start at the same time, adding distortion and delay. I liked the end result, but it wasn't long enough to be a song. so I wrote another bit and stuck the 2 together. at this point I have made a few different reprises of the same intro bit, and they are all like a minute long. I like the idea of a soundtrack for a movie that doesn't exist. It's supposed to sound old and degraded; if I ever finish up the other 90 minutes worth of music for the movie that never was, I will run it through an old tape deck to make it sound suitably degraded. This will do for now. Thanks for singing on this one Bryn.

Hi Michael......
I love the idea and everything about this piece of cinematica. You worked everything so well and it comes off a treat.

Bryn's work was foundation too. Brilliant.

Take care.

thanks so much for the kind words; you are a kindred spirit so it means a lot. i feel like this tune is probably not for everyone, so I'm glad that some enjoyed.

This is great Michael
I love the title you chose

I agree with Karen's comment and have indeed fallen asleep to this music - very soothing

Beautiful stuff

I think we should develop this thematically as you have been suggesting - a soundtrack, a CD? maybe offer it as a challenge (for other people to put video footage to)

i mean that
in the most complimentary way - it really is deeply soothing and is exactly (for me at least) the kind of music that would help me "let go" of brain busy-ness, breathe deeply and shed the day. i hope that meaning came through in my comment.

yup
Bryn: searching for video footage and starting to shoot some, we will definitely flesh this out into a monstrosity that only a select few will ever hear.

Karen: I totally got your meaning. so glad you liked.

I'll put in my vote for an extended version, too. This would be great music to practice yoga to. I am a big fan of ethereal tracks for meditation. Luscious.

soundtrack for a movie that doesn't exist
beautiful. minimalist but interesting and satisfying. i'm enjoying it. i like the title too. the norfolk southern railroad borders our farm and i'm always curious about the trainspotters who will park and stand with their camera equipment for hours on the rumor that a certain type of train or cargo will be passing through that day. What kind of people would do that? People with patience, and time lol. One of these days i'm going to have to talk to one of them, but they seem content to stand and wait, i hate to interrupt.

did I ever tell you how much I love the way you think? and here's another interesting fact. I just recently got cataracts removed from each eye, and just realized that your name is t-e-m-p-i-e, and not t-e-m-p-l-e.

so glad you like. as I read back over my description, I can see how distorted vocals might cause one to imagine something else. so glad you appreciated this one. I always feel like the world doesn't really care to hear this sort of thing that much.

Peace is what permeates every fiber of my being. I was expecting perhaps a delineation when the 2nd part you wrote joined in, just reading the description, but its totally seamless. To me it was one beautiful and brilliant track.

i really didn't want there to be a delineation, so I basically had to write the song intro backwards so that it ended in the right key. the tricky thing is that all the tracks have been so manipulated that there is no real tempo or key; not problematic on this one, but on the rest of the series I'm running into problems ( "how did I end up in waltz time?" ). glad you liked, thanks a bunch for the kind words.

Michael,
There is a distinct feeling of "air" in this that almost gives it the sense that it was recorded in a large space with real ambiances. Not really reverb in the usual sense, but that airy sound you get in a large space which I think is high frequency reverb. Very haunting effect.

Trainspotting
I love how you guys make beautiful music out of anything. Last night when I met Bryn he had his cell phone in his hand and at first I thought it was a mini recorder. I still half expect you guys to do a song that's 45 minutes of audience noise, reversed, filtered and randomly spliced - but still crisp and beautiful. This is very cool. DL.

Sounds like a guitar manipulated track. If you hadn´t mentioned voices, I would never notice them.
Sounds like Windy & Karl.It could go on for 20 minutes, I wouldn´t mind.

This is a great soundscape.. I really enjoy the sound that comes in @2:30... gives it the perfect amount of dissonance.

The soundtrack that had to be.
Quite a beauty, through all the changes you put those poor tracks through! Very illustrative. When you complete the soundtrack, I hope you find some fitting visual theme for the movie that never was that yet could be.

I was reading your song description, got to the part about manipulations and you totally lost me :P I don't know anything about that stuff. Anyway, a nice piece of music here, I could see it working as a soundtrack to a nature film.

Being in any type of transportation station makes me think of humanity as a bunch of ants running in and out of holes and dugouts, scurrying to their next destination, and not so certain as to where they're going. Everything is going so fast, yet the music in my head is very calm and ethereal, which is exactly what you've achieved here. Excellent sound designing and mood creation. Thanks for posting.

This whole thing is vocal based? Way cool. The texture was so synthesized, it was the ramp into dream, a place your feet can't feel and yet you rise all the same.
