I am usually very fond of flute harmonies but this goes beyond the usual experience. In the middle the flutes slowly disappear and the music turns into a landscape which leads me carefully so amazed and curious with every new step and yet quite haunting and comforting. Thanks for sharing.

Oh Wow
I have to say, the album art adds to the haunting feeling of this piece. Almost sad, yet there is a glimmer of hope that surrounds the notes. Very interesting!

Sort of hints
at latin being droned and sung in prayer in the background. The flutes(?) have a church organ like feel.I know i have mixed up two differnt eras of church music ....but only saying what the piece conveys to mine ear'ole.

Bingo
This piece, and my previous, are the start of a cycle inspired by the "canonical hours" prayers that are to be said at various set times during the day. This one puts me at sun up. Couple of movements to go till the end of the day....

Btw, that's 3 tenor and 3 bass recorders.

Vic
Looks like I heard this at the right time--first listen of the morning with my coffee. Eased me right into the the rest of the day. You truly captured the "time of day" concept with this piece. Not so easy to do, I think.

A MASTER
You have really perfected your flute playing.
This haunting sound you produce is unique.
Great chord progression.

When played and recorded this way....
...the recorders really get a certain pipe organ vibe, which is understandable since they are so similar in terms of how they produce sound....

It's neat how some harmonies seem to have that Gregorian feel while other moments are quite modern....

Unsettled
Don't know what the instrumentation is but this has a bit of a chamber organ feel to it (but sounds breathy so may be flutes?) The dissonant vibes are doing it for me - moves this well away from risk of cliché. Also makes it seem more questioning in spirit not finding a resolution.

Good pipes
For someone like me with a strange fascination with the old monastic buildings and practices of England, this is very welcome and evocative. The combination of notes hints at the sort of dissonant power and texture of a church organ piece and is a complex, rich arrangement of very insistent, strangely magnetic movements.

It comes over as a very carefully arranged and beautiful piece.

Enjoyed.

Thank you.

Beating
I love the beating created by the dissonances in many of the chords; in fact, I find it slightly jarring when a chord occurs with no dissonance, which is an interesting reversal. I also like the unpredictability of your harmonic progression. Did you write all this out, or is any of it improvised? Very well done.

Beating
Yes, I noticed that the couple of consonant chords are almost jarring in between the dissonances resolving into other dissonances.

This is completely improvised. A coupe of retakes, and the part where all six recorders come together was slightly planned.

Thanks for commenting.

The Hours
Knowing something about THE HOURS helps me put this haunting piece into context. I absolutely LOVE the dissonances throughout. Takes a lot of courage, I think, to write like this. You have created something like the world has never heard before, Vic. Just amazing work.

Very different!
From the other piece I heard from you. Love the sound of the recorder, so warm. While listening I was reading some of the other comments and see that this was improvised, which makes it even more impressive.

Improv?
Impressive. I'm partial (no pun intended) to those notes that slide into each other (there's one at 0:15) rather than decisively change. I don't know what that effect is called, but it adds a slightly 'smeared' quality that I really respond to. Thank you.
