Lyrics
Ragged breath drawing
Feel the hands clawing
Clawing at the dust
As we go along

Summer's furnace haze
locusts call

Rest in the cottonwoods
See that you withstood
Take no pleasure here
Son, this is just our job

The foolish pray for rain
hung on barb wire

Always meet their eye
Nor be fooled when they cry
Remember they've earned this fate
Mind you hone that blade

July's burning breath
Bull thistle wilt
Locust shrill their song
Still life with crows

Let them call for their god
While you dig and cut sod
Mind you lay it straight
for the grass has not wronged you

When the time draws near
Don't you shed one tear
Remember they've earned this fate
Son, this is just our job

Who will attend the wheat
For not the reaper man

With the blade your hand must be swift
For agony's not our gift
Leave that to them
Them's as dwell below

Six feet of rope.

Thats a days work done
Clean and oil this gun
Now let's set off for home
I hear there's dinner waiting
Hot dinner's waiting

Gritty
Steinbeck, Cash, deep both in register and lyric, love the reverb/echo.

As usual, interesting, earthy and darkly magnetic.

i think possibly a personal favourite, this one, with "The Succubus".

Stirring, beyond the merely 'enjoyable'!

Cheers for the post.

These songs come together FAST, and I've found the more i fool with it the less I like the finished product. It's all about the mood.

Great song. Along with Johnny Cash, this also reminds me of some of Metallica's lyrical pieces. Cool.

your voice
is monolithic and ancient. Solemn guitar to go along with it. The lyrics are quite good as well, though I'd doublecheck the phrasing and flow of certain lines -- some syllables just demand a certain kind of emphasis.

Great song!
