RAVENS + TDL Three Weary Miles

Description
This one came together quick. After Dani said we should do a song together, I was all over the idea. I had this piece penned out for a while, but wanted to do it as a duet. When Dani offered, I sent it off to her and To my wondering surprise she agreed to perform on it immediately! Being that it is a multiple layered murder ballad, I was so happy to get such a talented vocalist into this mix as I am a mediocre singer. Not only did she give a stellar performance, she is responsible for the mixing as well. I composed the music and lyrics. This is truly a joint effort, and it shows. I'm beyond impressed with how it turned out, and I can't thank Dani enough for her support and help.

Lyrics
Come with me she says
I must show you
Come with me
I have something you must see.

Three weary miles
though the burning wheat
Three weary miles
where only she may lead

Come my love
I will show to you
this wonderful thing
I have found for us to share

Close your eyes
Not much further now
Take my hand
There is no need to fear

Chorus: (together)

The Path to hell
Is paved with good intentions
The lower path
you have to walk alone

The path to hell
Is paved with good intentions
Blame no-one but yourself
For you shall reap what you have sown

Iron, copper- blood
Simply fills the air
mingling arousal and sweat
Her summer's air perfume

Pale green Dolls eyes
watch me warily
searching my face
For whatever may lay there

Isn't this beautiful?
What my hands have wrought
has it stolen your breath?
I knew you'd be surprised!

Now tell me my love,
Have I proved myself?
Have I shown you enough?
Only the air between us now.

Chorus: (together)

Her hands find my cheeks
You must show to me
Show me your love
Now she demands of me

One swift brutal wrench
and this devil's work is done
Shock and surprise
etched gently in her face

Three weary miles
through the burning wheat
three weary miles
into the setting sun.

Chorus: (together)

Far out!
Amazing song Adam. Such stripped-down simplicity, not only in the orchestration (such as it is) but musically, both in the vocal melody/harmony and that lovely acoustic strumming a kind of mournful march, just reflect and intensify the nasty story. Oh wait, you said Dani mixed this. Well, amazing song Dani. Very different for you, I think. You both did good ;-)
Cheers.

Thanks!
When i sent the original out to her it was just me and the guitar. After a little back and forth, I came up with the final version of the music. Dani mixed all the vocals, and the music tracks.

Thank You
For asking me to collab on this. It was certainly interesting, and I love when you actually sing. You did a wonderful job on the music & lyrics too! Sorry I had to mix it on my mom's dinky computer.

Thank you to everyone who comments and/or listens, we truly appreciate it.

Multiplied
You two really sound good together. Great collaboration.

Powerful and visceral, like all Adam's tracks that i have heard, but Dani's vocals add to it brilliantly, i think, and take it on somewhere else.

Ends just a tad abruptly, though, maybe? Would have like to hear those marvellous harmonies fade naturally into an ominous silence.

Brilliant, anyway.

Marc

Really impressive and moving.

Excellent !
Adam this is a great collab ! The song is awesome. OK, it's enough to mention Dani's name and we know what to expect ... but as far as you're concerned Adam, you're being too hard on yourself. Man, I'd like to be able to sing like you, honestly.

A great great listen, this song, you guy and gal both should be proud !

I'm a big fan of yours, so I take it to heart when you say this awesome. I think that sometimes an element is missing in my solo work that is well transmitted by another vocalist.

Darkness
This one is reminding me of Baxter's outtakes. Not a bad thing, the brittle guitar and "Cassidy bass" supporting a recurring melody in the lower mids... once was very popular and mercilessly imitated.
The "origin" of this tune is a class of celtic ballads, the choices you made in the production support the piece righteously! I especially enjoyed the mid range punch on Raven's vocal. In my experience this is rare and highly sought after... The female lead in the stark harmony of celtic tragedy is a strong vibe. Well done!

Wow?
All that and a bag of chips too. I hadn't really thought about celtic origins, but I do enjoy both traditional and modern versions of that genre. Probably creeping into my subconcious.

History
Of joint duets that has fallen by the wayside. Too much saccahrine and glitz. I wanted to throw back into a rawer place.

The harmonies became so much richer with Dani's additions. It fills out into the upper register, which I have none of. This song is actually sung painfully high for me.

Burnin' wheat, indeedy!
Well burn mah wheat, ain't this a treat. Kind of a '90s Morphine feel to the low, growing guitar. Nice delivery overall, Adam. And our resident raven Dani always, always knows how to make her vocals fit any and everything they touch.

Three weary miles
Holy smoke - just came across this on the random player. How I missed this I've no idea! This is such a hard hitting track and they lyrics are very evocative. They paint the scene and the musicianship is top notch. Kinda descriptive but in widescreen and in HD. You get every little spec of detail. Dani's vocal delivery is par excellence as always but great to hear her yet again redefine what I expect from her. Really enjoyed this and glad I stumbled across it. Challenging, but I loved it!
