Description
If there was a sub-genre entitled "Atmospheric Rock" I would have placed this piece there, but I guess it's all rock n' roll, yes? This starts off with an ethereal drone and builds into a jam of sorts.

This piece came to life as I was figuring out how to get my synths to talk to each other via MIDI in Logic and my fingers stumbled across the keyboard, creating what became the opening phrase. After tweaking the filters and envelopes a bit, I decided I liked it and went off and created a jam around it. I play the phrase throughout the jam, but it is not the central focus of it.

As for the drums, I went for a lo-fi, over-modulated sound, but I also wanted something heavy. Since I'm still having major problems getting my drums to work via MIDI, this is just an audio track; I plugged in the kit and played with the song, and this is the result.

This is my second piece using Logic Pro 9, and I must say I'm in love with the software. I am only utilizing about 10% of its capabilities, but that's 5% more than the last song!

Constructive feedback is always appreciated.

I'm so happy you like it! I can't wait to show my wife your comment. The original version was over 9 minutes long, but my wife said it was too "epic" and nobody would listen to it. Ha ha.

Pink Shades
Pick up the Pink bits, though this isn't a slavish copy, but something as good and your own.

Evocative space journey.

Nice post. Enjoyed.

Epic Tardis tune
Hey Jason, this had me imagining the Tardis spinning through a worm hole heading towards a Floyd show on the dark side of the sun. Did I miss any space hyperbole? Epic it is! And ain't we glad of it. Auto D/L. Regards, Peter.

Again
I'm a sucker for proggy synth rock, so I'm biased. But still, I hope you will accept my compliments on a really enjoyable piece. Really flows. The beginning I especially liked --- and the tempo. I always liked the one-step interval change. Seems to lend itself well to many styles. Great work.

Corporal Beef said 2497 days ago (February 9th, 2011)
Thank You
I appreciate your comments a lot, and I agree with your assessment of one-step intervals. Now that all my gear (except my drums) can talk to each other, it makes the process of sequencing so much easier. I used to have to do it all on the fly and "hope" it worked out. Logic Pro rules.

A good listen
Lots to like here - I really like the way you use panning across the sound stage - especially at the start.

I'm not sure if it's your kit choice, or whether you're overloading the drum track on purpose, but I'm getting a definite over-compressed sound (maybe that's what you mean by "over-modulated") on the kit in my 'phones. It stands out because the synths are so clean and pure. I'd love to hear this with a cleaner drum sound.

A really involving post which would make great company on a long drive (with lots of bends!).
Cheers from Oz,
Neil

Thanks, Neil
I originally had a clean drum track on it, but it sounded TOO derivative, so I went with what I wanted in the first place: oversaturation. There is some compression on it, but not a lot. Thanks for your feedback!

Epic-logic intro
Niiice intro, love those synth glides, simple but attention-grabbing, and then it takes off like a game soundtrack across some alien desert, I can see how Karen fell in love with this, although hopefully she keeps an eye on her speed while cruising to this. Probably in about 50 more years I'll feel like I can make the jump to logic-speed :-) Sounds great here, drum work is cool.

love the synth work on this! especially the moog melody line floating above all the heavy bass and drums. Drums sound great to me - wouldn't worry about them being "just" audio. Midi can give you too many options sometimes! This is great.

Cool ambient rock piece that builds up nicely and evenly. I like when the drums kick in - that's when you know it's going to be a rock number. Stays interesting till the end. Fine work - thanks!
