Description
Just a short idea I had Friday lunch-time, that I wanted to capture today .. from nought to what you hear in about 6hrs.

A kinda 'Eagles of Death Metal', 'Lenny Kravitz', 'The Sweet' inspired thang...that ended up sounding "The Who" ish. I felt the need to do some strange rock.

Needs more strange lyrics and perhaps another section to complete it... but I'd like some opinions first.

Anyways, here it is warts an' all. Suggestions welcome.

Lyrics
Your getting sicker, quicker now,
She's got you all sewn up.
You have a yearning but she longs for fun,
and tonight I'm gonna give up.

Susie with the pigtails
Wins hands down
When Susie with the pigtails
Fools around
Susie with the pigtails
Wins hands down
Cos' when Susie with the pigtails
Comes to town
You know you'll soon be dead.

Your getting sicker, quicker now,
She's got you all stitched up.
You have an itch but she won't let go,
Messin' with your head.

first!
Hi there... I find the lyrics interesting. Where did you get the artwork? Cool! I like the drums and drums very much. The vocals sound nice and clear and blend with the harmonies nicely. I agree that it could be a bit longer, with another section, but really like what here very much! Well done.

Thanks Laura

I look at the entire content as a work-in-progress. Got the artwork from googling images for "pigtails evil" I think .. lol. I'll try an work on a new section if it's worth it. It was a blast having a go at a song in this style.

S'funny- your right about the Who thang, especially with the synth usage.. I was thinking of a wee solo over that 1st synthy break..
Must have kinda reverse engineered the Who from 3 other influences I thought of: "Don't speak (I came to make a bang)" [EODM], "Are you gonna come ma way" [LK] and "Little willy" [The Sweet] (prolly why some hear a touch of glam too)

I did try some different things on the production, to try and get a bit more "in the same space" feel and raunchier recording.

could well be, certainly in the summer (when I'll hopefully have more time for some additional projects)- we'll need a name: how 'bout "The Hounds of the Chicagovilles"? - we could take Sir Arthur Conan Doyle story titles for song titles too? This song would be a hoot to do live with your good self and crew.

Susie with the pigtails
I like this. It sounds to me like late(?) 60's possibly the Who, maybe even the Kinks.I don't think you need to do much to finish it(but then I get comments about my lack of production!!). I'd be tempted to go verse, chorus, instrumental verse(guitar solo),chorus, verse, chorus. Great song, well worth completing. Cheers Grahame

Thanks Graham
and thanks for those useful arrangement suggestions: it dawned on me earlier today that a little geetar solo would work over that 1st break bit (about 1min in). I actually did a Kinks cover fairly recently (over @ iComp) so some of that might have also worked it's way into this.

From what I've heard of your production your ear for mixing balance is fine but just need to work on recording the instruments/vocals with a bit more care... watching for clipping. Maybe you should then try playing with not just doubling up parts but how you place them in the stereo-field (panning). I could teach you what tricks I deploy in a few minutes... of course having an Ozone plug-in really helps too.

fictitious of course. I think of her as being both cause and remedy for poor health (all in one), rather permanently...lol. Still ironing out her characterisation at this stage...

Hmm. An opinion on what it needs I doubt I would be qualified to give. I do like the way this jam is constructed and look forward to keeping a similar vibe with the lyrics to it.

I wouldn't put yourself down like that: I would be more than happy to take advice from your good self; you are more than qualified in my book... better than many who claim to be experts. I will be going for the same vibe in re-works/extensions with the lyrics .. with any luck making it clearer and plainer "who" or "what" Susie is (even if just a notion).

as much as I like to try and aim for perfection, I simply don't have the time these days.. and with a poor short-term memory this "dump and idea down before I forget it" is sometimes the best practical approach from me, not really through choice. 6 weeks does sound like life in the way, it's a constant struggle... but it's not a race. Glad you stopped in as always.. and thanks for the heads-up on Gus' choon... that was a hoot.

Sicker Quicker
Deary me Alan - whats is is this time. The cold? The flu?
Now - the first thing you need to do is turn down the heating atg home - a constant 35 degrees is just asking for trouble. When the bananas go brown , turn the heat down - just think of that as a rule of thumb.

Not only will you get a better sleep at night , but you'll also get the benefit of you warm clothes when you go outside - and we all know how cold it can get in Sweden!
Secondly, I would recommend a vitamin tablet each day - you cant go wrong with that!

apb said 2443 days ago (March 12th, 2011)
Jerry!!
hahaha- nice surprise! Nah, I'm not ill and the thermostat is now banana controlled (you'll be pleased to hear) ;o) Eating a well balanced diet too- he lied. Does this mean we will soon be hearing some JerryD choons on MJ? Got the hang of GB yet?

Good
clean fun..... Maybe a bridge into the last verse with a step into a different key and lyric that is a one line repeat like "Suzie gotchya all stitched up" maybe a solo too? Just thinkin out loud.
Peace

certainly being considering a solo in the 'middle section', a bridge could be useful too- key changes I usually avoid due to them sounding a bit corny to my ears...but always worth a try. Thanks for the suggestions and listen.

I like the fills meeself .. been learning to drum recently .. much fun .. and exercise too.. I think it sounds "Who-ish": the bass line sounds Entwhistlish and the way the guitars back-off to let the pseudo-ARPed synths do their bit adds to the "Who-ness" comparison..perhaps even the lyrical style.

I enjoyed the stripped down, unhurried vibe. Inevitable surrender approaching. I dug the notch in her axe too. I heard devilish little girl laughing in the breaks. I liked that you didn't deviate from the era sound. A lunch time capture... I wonder what you were eating beforehand.
