"Ike's Kids" Solo Andy Sax

Description
Tenor solo Andy Sax

Normally I keep things like "Ikes Kids" to myself. Andy did an amazing job on this tune and I wanted to share that work with you. The setting is challenging and the harmony is impossible, but that is the norm for us, what is different about this one is...
In the last year I have spent a great deal of time investigating 1951. The research has given me many tunes, in all shapes and sizes, many genre and settings. "Ikes Kids" refers to children born during the Eisenhower Shogunate. Ike was the nominal Shogun of America. If you don't understand that reference, you probably won't understand this one either:
During the "Ike Years" women became pregnant at a rate unequalled in modern history. This was the "baby boom" years.
Still with me? "Ikes Kids" is an attempt to capture something of the time. Nothing here is nostalgic. I am not a fan of nostalgia. There are some videos posted for reference on the site page. Here's shifts from 1951: science fiction becomes mainstream, Big Band music dies, Hank Williams has his first crossover hit, rockabillie arrives, the "chittlin circuit" is organized, the automobile becomes a designer's canvass, plastics arrive, and so on.
Hopefully you will enjoy this piece, and it will set you to thinking about today. We will post more of music for "1951" as soon as some gets finished... the Siren's backlog is 50 tunes or so...

agree
w davisa. But just that short taste was "exciting"--that's what comes to mind the most. A lot of power packed into succinctness.

Hey Dix
Thanks for stopping by, this thing is a lot of things, powerful is one of those I think. Didn't waste your time with a lot of needless development either, this got to the point.

Thats

one frightening kids toy: "Yikes kids!" might have been more appropriate ;o) ... this was one very dischordant modern jazz piece and as such was way beyond my comprehension...sorry.

The Daug Pencil
writes a mind-bending nuclear-tipped sonic assault and strikes humility into my musical heart. Shock and awe, man. Atomic energy lab? I'm sure I would have wanted one if I had been born a little earlier. I can loosely understand the base of the piece. It's the backers that provide the tonal complexity. I wonder how it would come across without the drum track to hold it together. And when I say that, it should be taken to imply that listeners such as myself often have difficulty identifying togetherness, and need to have something to latch onto. If I latch onto the drum/bass line, the rest falls into a clearer perspective. Majorly impressed. All my precious bodily fluids are tingling. Also, compliments to Andy for the dazzling sax.

Thanks Reggie
Andy and I appreciate your warm consideration of "Ike's Kids." In order to allow for "dissonance" one must "let it happen", sadly many listeners remain "unprepared". Listeners unable to experience modern tensions can get their expectations met elsewhere...
Once you follow us, you can not go back to the "little world" again and hear things the same way... no cliches here... thanks for your steady support Reggie!

Hello Laura
That's Andy Sax playing his mystery horn for ya. I appreciate you hearing the luxury and elegance in this arrangement. Ears are made to hear music... sadly, most taste music with their mouth or must feel it on their skin, for their ears are useless appendages...

Best to you reference the trouble in Japan!
I never listened to Bowie, so I can't relate to your comment, although I am aware he played sax... not very well if I recall the criticism I heard from a friend of mine, who though Earl Slick was more of mimic than a player... some things don't age well...
