Description
this song was constructed from two different song ideas i had going. i had a guitar instrumental that i have been playing as a warm up, when i'm in the just plug into the amp and play mode. then another one that was the verse & chorus part. so i thought i would work on combining the two songs into one.

the beginning part sounds like i used a slide but actually i used the whammy bar to get the smooth pitches.

also on the main rhythm guitar , i used logics space designer and tweaked it a bit, giving it a long, filtered reverb effect without repeating the played notes.

the lyrics came about me thinking of some of acquaintances that i had spent some quality time with. the relations would slip away and lost contact. sometimes i wonder and hope that their lives are fulfilling. but that stuff is best left in the past, so no, this is not a torch song. just a wish you well thing.

Lyrics
Just So You Know

it was so simple
we slipped apart
sometimes i wonder
where are you now
all the years i
remembered you
i can't turn back time
and i don't want to
just so you know
i thought of you

i know you're hiding out there
waiting for the moment to shine
i know you're hiding out there
someday the sun will shine on you
i know you're hiding out there
someday someone is going to see you

you saw the stars
i was the moon
a piece of earth
a piece of sky
you were around
i was in flight
i can't turn back time
and i don't want to
just so you know
i thought of you

i know you're hiding out there
waiting for the moment to shine
i know you're hiding out there
someday the sun will shine on you
i know you're hiding out there
someday someone is going to see you

Hey Vic
This track is so very well produced, I love that intro, your choice of instrumentation, and the way you mix and master is way top notch, great song, great vocals, amazing production, love it!

I'll spend a bit of time on the mix, sometimes replacing parts, etc. mostly i am trying to avoid looking back at a song a couple months down the road and realizing it needs to be remixed/remastered.

thanks for the listen

Just So You Know
Has a wistful, pensive quality, that your voice brought out really well. It brings out a side of your writing I can't say I remember hearing before. You say it's not a torch song, but then there's that heartfelt lyric and the picture .... Nice guitar tone cool you are rolling your own. Your usual great production.

Hi Vic
You're right, what genre? I think Alternative. It's got a bit of Pink Floyd influence here. I love the guitars...very effective!

originally i had a different, more upbeat chord progression for the verse parts, before i started recording i didn't think it jived with the rest of the song. so i came up with a different one at the last moment

Top Notch
I don't think it's Floyd I hear here. But, the music has a familiar tone indeed. Tone is familiar but not the tune. Quite original idea for a song. Kind of a change up from you.

Dig it.

So you know
I know you've said that you don't think these things out so much, but you are running an unusual time signature in the verses, 8+8+4, so I guess that would be 10/4. Just so you know hahahaha. Anyway, that and the nice chord combinations, with your vocals that are perfect for this, gives it a different feel, and a lot of appeal. I also like what you did with the guitar sound. Nice use of the whammy. Great theme. I know what you mean.

Just So You Know
I completely understand the impetus to write this kind of "wishing you well" song. Lots of history. Lots of "what ifs". The guitars are the star here. The reverb work is incredible. So much depth and atmosphere, so washy. Cool song.

i think everyone who writes songs, if they haven't already, will write a reflective song in some shape.

bedroom rock for grownups
everyone wonders the same thing. although now you can use facebook to re engage. my guess with disastrous results. people come and go for a reason. the song has a weird tension that works with the concept. it wants to break out into a radio melody but always stays just below the surface of singable. which makes it more listenable. which in turn links right back to the concept of self reflection. bedroom rock for grown ups.

Another gem
Vic - I'm enjoying this. I'm getting some clipping on the guitars in the LH channel - maybe it's my 'phones?
Slow songs are so hard to pull off, and you've done a good job with this one - nice use of the space designer. I haven't played with it much yet, just using presets. Must experiment!

i relistened to this on 2 different headphones and am not hearing it. i do record the tracks at quite low levels. heck, maybe my hearing is going :-0

i don't use any of the other reverbs, just space designer. it covers anything from a small room to really warped out sounds, very cool tool to use

Reminds me of
something Deep Purple would have done back in the day. Reminiscent of the sweeping feel of "Sweet Child in Time" in places. Another great song. You have a way of making a comfortable and well constructed song, solid in all aspects. You do it every time too, which is all the more impressive. Excellent job.
