Description
This is from last night's show at the venerable Acton Jazz Cafe....featuring the one and only Amadee Castenell on sax and flute. Amadee is the sax player in Allen Toussaint's touring band, and has recorded with everyone...he is the greatest player i have ever had the pleasure of playing with...since these are all jams, you may hear a clam or two, but the energy and beauty of this night for me, both personally and musically, is a memory i will hold forever. So many old friends came to listen and to play...it was amazing.

Calling this the FAT TUESDAY band

This recording is :
Fran Dagostino Band with (Bryan and Fran Bishop, bass & drums)
Laird Nelson: Hammond B3
Amadee Castenell, Tenor sax and Flute.

Other great guests came, and i will share some more very soon. I hope to have the entire night up on the NIMBIT as free downloads by weeks end.

Please let me know how this sounds through your gear.

four mics were used to capture the sound, 2 AKG Perception 200 Stereo Condesor Mics, and 2 close mics on the guitar and bass amps.

Brilliant stuff Fran
First - bloody terrific, wish I could get to see this sort of stuff somehow.

As far as the recording goes, I think the best I've heard of the recent posts was the 2 mic night - the first Acton posts this year. This seems to lack the sparkle of those earlier recordings a bit - not as dynamic a sound, and not as clearly defined instruments.

Of course it still sounds really good, but maybe a bit muffled compared to the earlier one. Very cool stuff - must be an absolute blast to play ......... EVERY WEEK!

Best wishes from Oz,
Neil

thanks neil
it has become a monumental task to get each show mixed before the next one hits....I even took a week off from recording...of course that week one of my fav keyboard players in the world came in and tore the place down, and I dont have it....

Trying to duplicate the sound of those first recordings...it's so hard! I listened to a cd in the car of tracks from all the shows...they all sound similar enough to be grouped up on a disk, but making them the same from week to week is impossible. I still have a lousy way to capture the vocals, which is a problem I will need to conquer before I can get these the way I would like them to be....but I am feeling that if I can keep this Tuesday happening, I will have a chance to make a ton of recordings with some of the best players around these parts...and just the idea of that, is so thrilling. I have these nights to hold onto forever... I am so blessed.
Thanks for the feedback!!!!
