My recent post "The Road Less Traveled" originally was titled "Bittersweet." After I posted it, Bryn offered to do a sonic magpie version--transforming it from the piano piece that it started out as. I sent the Logic file to him and he sent back an altered instrumental--with the tempo slowed and the instruments switched out for new synths.

This version is what it became after I added lyrics and vocals to the 'new' instrumental.
The 3rd and final version--which will be posted soon under sonic magpie--is what the finished track became.

I absolutely love what you did to transform this song, B.
Thank you :)

when darkness casts its stifling veil
and hurls the stars out of the sky....
will you ever seek the silence?
or try to look inside?

and when the sun has ceased its glow
for the things you'd thought you'd know
leaving the light to fade
for all those left below....

have you tried to touch the silence?
or have you simply cursed the sky
when the sweet has turned to bitter,
when the world is set afire.

when darkness casts its crushing veil
and hurls the stars out of the sky
when the sweet has turned to bitter
will all that's left be memory?

and will all be bitter to me?

I like the instruments and pacing. They allow your voice to lay on top nicely.

Thank you for the download :)

I just listened
to the original an hour or so ago, and this is, for all intents and purposes, a different tune.

I am enjoying this version very much - full of emotion in your voice Cat and some deliciously rich deep synthy stuff going on.

Great work Bryn in helping Cat transform this.

Cheers from Oz,

The minimal musical touches that cradle each note of the melody make the combined performance sing from the depth of emotion. Cat your voice feels so present here that there is an immediate intimacy established from the outset of the piece. I also love the unusual subtle sweeping synthy sounds which help set the mood of discomfort that is underscored by the lyric and Cat's emotional tone.

Lovely work and congratulations to both of you on a fine tune. Now I'm off to hear the predecessor.....

Beautiful, Cat....
The melody is sweet, the synth piano sound is spacious and full, and the simplicity of it all makes it sound huge...

Your voice is simple, perfect and flawless on this...

I also think that these are some really well crafted lyrics, good poetry without pretense....

Less traveled...
Acoustic Piano and Cello was wonderful, but the Electric Piano, "Moog pedals" and your voice are so beautiful. I hope you didn't have to go through the pain the lyrics reveal, but if so; it obviously made you stronger and better - not bitter.
