Description
We thought it would be fun to re-indulge ourselves in the spirit of the last Texas jam back in July at Jack’s homey abode in Greenville. So we virtually jammed on this davisamerica 1&2 song. Not everyone at the original jam had the time to join in, but four of us were able to throw something together here. If a jam is good, then you play till you drop, so this got kind of lengthy, but we finally stopped for lunch. Anyway, here is the Family Tie jam as performed by: Chris Cihon on lead, distorted rhythm and bass guitars. Andy Wigzell on Alto and Tenor sax. Mark Holbrook on organ, drums and harmony vocals. And Terry Pearson on lead and harmony vocals, rhythm guitar, bongos, maracas and harmonica. Hope y’all (pardon my Texan) enjoy it. T

Lyrics
Family Tie

Well, your mother’s good lookin’ and your sister’s got a line on me
I ask you out for supper, then your father takes us there for free
Now I’m not a difficult guy, but I just can’t understand why
Looks like once in a while you’d leave that family tie

Well, I’m sittin’ here thinkin’ ‘bout your father and Oliver Earl
Who both started out in search of the perfect girl
Now, Martha is a family girl, the best one in the world
Martha doesn’t think about life outside the family tie

Well, the joker tried to tell you in the evenin’ you was in a drag
But you kindly told the peasant ‘twas the best one that you ever had
And as he turned to go on his way, you had the fleeting feeling to say
“Tell me ‘bout livin’ and life outside the family tie”

Family Tie
I like the change leading into the refrain. The band is sounding tight, I enjoyed the guitar and sax breaks especially. Strong vocal. Good hook. I think the song could be stronger with a bridge.

Thanks for dropping in Dave
I got to mix this song, and it didn't really give me many problems. We all connected pretty well, and it really felt like we were back in Greenville standing side by side and sharing the same groove. Great people here. Great musicians. We appreciate the comments. T

Man o maaaan!
You guys rocked this boat right out of the water! All that fine tuning paid off big time, Andy. You and Chris really complemented each other on these solos. And Mark, that beat and organ gave us a smooth ride all the way. It was great playing with you guys again. MacJams is a family tie I don't wish to leave. T

Excellent!
Love the harmonies, Andy's sax, and Chris's lead guitar. Personally, I think the vocals and lead could be a little louder in the mix but still a great listen.

Glad you liked the harmonies. I wanted to get a lot of vocals going on this, but it was basically Mark and I. I also wanted to highlight these solos by Andy and Chris. Superb cast of collabs I think. It was great working with all of them. Thanks for the comments. Terry

This is
freakin awesome!! great sound song mix production... etc. Great job you guys. Has some flavour of a band called Harlequin (popular in Canada) BUT without that kick ass soloing.
Peace

I'm still apprenticed to many of these MacJammers. I'm still listening and learning. I knew this little tune would inspire some great solos. Thanks for tuning in. T

difficult guy
some nice ripping leads, I don't know why but blue oyster cult comes to mind when listening to this, some weirdness in the middle break. Andy on the horn I don't know if it can get much better!
Check out my latest song called Tempest Wave
davisamerica2 said 2256 days ago (March 23rd, 2011)
That weirdness was my brainless child.
I left a hole in the middle with the idea of letting the bass and drums do a waltz, but as inherent with true jams, it took a surprising turn, so that was basically patchwork. Glad you enjoyed the song. T

The "Family" supergroup!
The "Family" supergroup! Andy's sax kicks things off real nice and things just kick up a notch when Chris' lead work logs in. Solid lyrics and quality vocals tie everything together. Terrific contributions by all. Great jam! Congratulations. Warm regards, Peter.

Jack wrote those lyrics many many moons ago. In fact, the papyrus crumbled in my fingers as I unrolled it. Ha! These guys are great musicians, and I get quite a thrill whenever I get to play along. It's amazing how a few MacJammers can put new life into a song that was buried years ago. Thanks from us all. T

Nice jam guys! In fact, much more than a jam. Nice song. Liking the 70s rock riff and lush backup vocals. Killer guitar solo! Nice break down around 3:30. I just knew the sax solo was coming. And boy did Andy deliver.

I was definitely shooting for an "in person" mix.
These guys did a fantastic job of covering up my puny little sound bed. You've seen these pictures of the stars without their makeup? Not a pretty sight. That's how this song was. They turned that pathetic little caterpillar into a glorious butterfly. Great, great crew! Thanks for the comments, Char. Terry
