Tear Them Down

Description
This is a Friday afternoon quickie.

No, the other kind. Get your mind out of the gutter.

The guitars, bass, vocals and most of the drums were down in an hour or two Friday afternoon. The rest of the drums and the lead guitar, such as it is, was done this evening.

Not really a metal guy and not sure if this should have been metal, hard rock or something else. Maybe polka. Just not sure. But this is actually not too far from a lot of music I was doing with one of the bands I was in during the early 90s back in college. Except, we had a real guitar player. I just played bass and screamed drunkenly into the mic.

As for what the inspiration was behind the tune, I'll just say this: I've GOT to stop reading the news...

Lyrics
Tear The Down
@2011 Joseph Gurner

No time for hypocracy
as they spread their atrocities
Screaming lies as they run us down
Make the masses feel the pain
Can’t be bothered with the real world
so easy to ignore
Put you lies on the eving news
Makes us think we can choose

No time for empathy
No time for humanity
Bring the masses down to their knees
Spread your lies like the plague
Can’t be bothered with the real world
when there’s money to be made
Put your lies in a sermon
As we all start to pray

Tear them down
Fight their words
Stop their lies
Tear them down

No time for charity
as they divide society
Blame the poor for being poor
the sick for the disease
Can’t be bothered with the real world
make lies into the truth
Put poison into their minds
Make them fear the unknown

Tear them down
Fight their words
Stop their lies
Tear them down

Tear them down
Fight their words
Stop their lies
Tear them down

Tear them down
Fight their words
Stop their lies
Tear them down

Joe, you're showing your love for Neil Young's heavier moments. We are rocking in the free world again! Maybe with a tad more grit in the vocal. I love it!

Friday afternoon quickie.....hehe
Screamed drunkenly into the mic...LOL

Thanks Andrew!
I did "grit" much better 20-25 years ago when I was stripping the paint off my vocals chords with really cheap bourbon. These days, I have to get it done in one take or wait a few days before I can try again.

Appreciate you taking a listen. Glad you enjoyed it.

Embrace the power of the Dark Side...
Sometimes the only way I can work off frustration is some loud guitar and a little anger in my voice. Thanks for stopping by!

Up, Down, All Around!
Definitely one of the more aggressive songs I've done. I rarely even go above 110 bpm for the tempo. Made playing with the drums fun. Glad digital drummers can't complain about the tempo...

Glad you enjoyed it, Vic. Thanks for listening.

Hells Yeah
I like your edgier side. Yeah, I'd classify this as a type of Metal. Great music track! Diggin' your vocals, and the lyrics as well. Great stuff!

Oh the 90s
I worked with a few guitarists back then who apparently weren't aware that you could play the guitar without a whole rack of distortion pedals. Thanks for taking time to listen and comment!

nice work on a Friday. Slammin drums and guitar are crankin...your vocals top it all off with a good "screamer anthem."

thanks for the download :)

Nothing like Friday
A chance to let off a little steam before the weekend gets going. Plus, the only time I have the house to myself to do really loud things.

Thanks for the listen, comment and download. Awesome!

Gotta love Friday afternoon quickies!!

It's so easy to get pissed recently with everything going on, and I totally get where your coming from. It's a train heading for a concrete wall, and instead of trying to stop the train is speeding up.

Great raw energy here, loved it. Keep these coming; it's great therapy. Thanks for posting.

Train wreck
For a long time, I was somewhat numb to the news, after spending 16 years in the newspaper business, but, the further I get away, the more I really have to keep some perspective and have a definite outlet for my anger and frustration, lest my blood pressure causes me to blow an artery.

Thanks for listening.

Nothing like a quickie :)
I actually would have gotten this one done much quicker, but I had to go back and redo all the guitar after I decided I could sing it better if I tuned the guitar down a full step (been doing that a lot lately). Some of my favorite tunes are those that just pop up out of nowhere and get done in an hour or two.

Always appreciate you, Karen. Thanks!

You should do this live!
This sounds new... hard rocking thumping with the turbulent times! Joe, you got a new sound and I like it. This would be great to experience in a live performance.

You too...
Gotta stop reading that crap as well, they are so full of it and themselves...
This is what they call a protest song, I wouldn't call it Metal ether it's more of
what the industry called Grunge a cross between Punk & Hard Rock .....

Strong lyrics... A few things need help but you get your point across really well, keep fighting the good fight....
