Life In a J.A.R. w/rok41 Chris Flynn

Description
After posting this the first time I had a few comments of the absence of bass. Chris Flynn (rok41) helped me out and did a spectacular job with it. Thanks Chris!

Inspired by my late girlfriend Jody Ann Rex. She was the strongest person I've yet to meet in my life. With all that happened she never asked "why me?" Acoustic guitar and vox by me. Everything else is with GB. This is my first attempt at recording with GB. I know it needs work. Any comments will be appreciated. Thanks.

---Have being asked recently what the inspiration was for this song, I decided to go into more depth about it.

Verse 1…
I remember we were cooking dinner when friends dropped by to see what the latest word was. She said "I have a brain tumor." Said she was going to go for the suggested treatment and everything was going to be fine. (At this point we were told it was "only" a stroke.)

Pre-Chorus

Verse 2…
"Did you see…" I was sitting watching the hot air balloons over ABQ. Something she wanted to see, the balloon fiesta, never made it there. And she was always cold from the poisons of the chemo treatment. Even on a hot day she would wear a sweater.

Chorus

Verse 3
"Now all I can do…" As her strength deteriorated she would just sit and stare outside from the 3rd floor where we lived. She would gaze at the park we used to walk through.

A few hidden meanings are at the 3:10 mark, a bell, the day she passed March 10th. An angel got her wings. From 4:08-4:10 you can hear her say "money, money, money." 4:10 being the birthday of her best friend, Donna, since she was 6 years old. Length of song is 4:18, April 18th, her birthday.

Well, have you heard the news today
I got this feeling inside I got to fight to go away
Won't you come and sit with me for a little bit of time
Maybe we can just talk, talk about the weather
Oh yeah, it's a beautiful day

Well have you heard the news I'm not feeling quite right
I've got this feeling inside I got to fight
I got to fight

Did you see the balloons this morning flying oh so high
I want to go there
Through the clouds to the snow capped mountains
Into the heat of the sun
It's got to be, got to be so warm there

I want to feel the sunshine on my face
I want to burn down this place in my mind
In my mind

Now all I can do is sit in my chair
And stare out the window
I want to go there
I want to walk through the park hand in hand
I want to feel the wind blow through my hair
I want to go there

I want to feel the sunshine on my face
I want to burn down this place in my mind
In my mind

Such a Great Song
I love this tune! Your vocal is particularly great! I'm so jealous of you guys that can really sing. What a beautiful melody and chord changes. And that fat p-bass just locks it all in!

Life in a J.A.R.
Jody, I have always loved this song and I was flattered that you asked me to lay down a bass track. This song stood on it's own as it was, I only hope that I added something of value to it. This is an inspirational song, sums up what song writing is all about. RoK

A fantastic song made even better!
Hi Jody. A fantastic song made even better! Such a personal reflection encapsulated in song. Your vocals are stellar and Chris' bass adds depth and interest. The GB instrumentation is fine too. Kudos to both of you. Warm regards, Peter.

More than before
The bass definitely adds more pulse to the song. The mix is well done with your panning and levels giving all the parts the due.

Thanks for the download :)

You
are so talented. Everything you do seems effortless. It is a song full of appreciation and with some wistfulness for a too short life. Chris beefed it up a bit. Now, it is perfect.
