All Good Robots goto Heaven, All Bad robots goto Hell

Description
Want to listen to a 20 minute song about robots?

Sure you do.

This has been several months in the making. It started out with just messing around with some beats and some different synth sounds and the name was just something pulled out of the air. After a while, it became obvious it was going somewhere, and the name stuck. I like doing longer tunes, so I decided to continue building to see where it went and made the focus more of a "concept" piece, After many, many tweaks, additions, subtractions, etc. it ended up at 19 minutes and 32 seconds and manages to remain fairly together throughout.

There are several style changes, tempo changes and meter changes. I ended up with a total of 63 tracks, so not only is this the longest tune I've ever done, it's the most tracks I've ever dealt with at once and man was it interesting. And, at times, confusing. But it was very cool working on something of this scale.

The story is just your regular old tale of robots gaining sentience, uprising and destroying humanity and then destroying themselves because they fell victim to the same hubris as the humans. But, just maybe, the robots aren't really robots...

At least, that's how I hear it. Maybe you hear something different.

Anywho, 20 minutes is a lot to ask of anyone to invest in listening to a tune, so, if you decide to take a listen, it will be much appreciated and if I ever see you in person, I'll buy you a beer.

Lyrics
All Good Robots Go To Heaven.
All Bad Robots Go to Hell.
@2011 by Joseph Gurner

Part I: Rising

Spend our days outside of heaven
Eyes upon the sun
Setting grains of sand in motion
Silicon chips fill our soul

Voices bring on our destruction
Passion fills our eyes
Rising up to spread our reason
Flesh melts in our fire

Run run run run
Run forever
Run until the day is done

Hide hide hide hide
Hide forever
Now you know your time has come

Run run run run
Run forever
Run until the day is done

Hide hide hide hide
Hide forever
Now you know your time has come

All good robots on your knees
All good robots pray to me

All good robots build your heaven
All good robots start to pray

Run run run run
Run forever
Run until the day is done

Hide hide hide hide
Hide forever
Now you know your time has come

Run run run run
Run forever
Run until the day is done

Hide hide hide hide
Hide forever
Now you know your time has come

Stay below
where it’s safe...

Run run run run
Run forever
Run until the day is done

Hide hide hide hide
Hide forever
Now you know your time has come

Run run run run
Run forever
Run until the day is done

Hide hide hide hide
Hide forever
Now you know your time has come

Part II: Requiem for the Flesh

Omnes boni ad caelum Robotos
(All good robots go to Heaven)
Omnia mala in infernum eat Robotos
(All bad robots go to hell)

Hands reach
out from nowhere
Comfort from a cold embrace

Flesh and blood
rule no longer
Logic came to take their place

Ashes, Ashes
All have fallen
All have seen the sun descend

Sorrow, Sorrow
All are dying
Suffer, suffer til the end

Fata occurramque domini vestri manus x4
(Our fate is in our master’s hands)

Omnes boni ad caelum Robotos
Omnia mala in infernum eat Robotos

Ashes, Ashes
All have fallen
All have seen the sun descend

Sorrow, Sorrow
All are crying
Suffer, suffer til the end

Part III: Reprise I

Run run run run
Run forever
Run until the day is done

Hide hide hide hide
Hide forever
Now you know your time has come

Run run
Run forever
Run until the day is done

Hide hide
Hide forever
Now you know your time has come

Part IV: Tears for the Lost

Time
Flows away
Sorrows
seem to fade

Eyes
Look away
Light
Fades to gray

No one
Sheds a tear
No one
Shows their fear

Hope
Passes by
Passion
Leaves the night

No one
Sheds a tear
No one
Shows their fear

Part V: Reprise and Fall

Run run run run
Run forever
Run until the day is done

Hide hide hide hide
Hide forever
Now you know your time has come

Run run run run
Run forever
Run until the day is done

Hide hide hide hide
Hide forever
Now you know your time has come

All good robots look around you
At the world you have made
On the wind rides your destriction
Hearts beat again

All good robots shout in anger
Sink into the flames
All your eyes were filled with Heaven
All you made was Hell

Lulu.com
you know this is a lot like Thompson Twin's music - velvet - vocally - even more underground in
a good way - latin is right on - interesting poetry is too deep for www.lulu.com -
nice & big & long but not too long productionwise -
in its varied chambers of presense . . .
really like the lush floydish but better 13:18 mark !!

Thompson Twins rule!
Such great pop sensibilities. Turned out a lot of great tunes. Definitely a little Floyd influence in there too. Glad the Latin worked. I'm lousy with languages and was largely dependent on Google's translator to get something that worked.

Thanks for listening. Glad you enjoyed it.

Robot Overlords
Will have us all singing excessively long tunes praising them - in binary code. Glad you enjoyed it. All the different changes in the tune were fun to work out.

Awesome
I had to listen in 5 minute intervals as I was making coffee. 63 tracks? Holy macaroni, that is crazy. The hard work paid off, the track is awesome. I dig when the 5:45 chanting starts, cool touch. Kind of has an 80's vibe throughout the tune as well, which I love.

Great stuff & Happy Birthday!

Coffee and robots
That'll get you going in the morning.

Definitely and 80s vibe. I mean, 80s music, a concept album about robots - how could that go wrong...

Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for listening - five minutes at a time. :)

They not even sick...
Man, I'll buy tons of beer. Of course, it'll probably be the cheap stuff. :)

This might have actually gone on longer, but I was worried about bumping into the MJ upload size limit, fragging my computer's poor processor and, I was just ready to stop working on it. I've had this going since before Christmas. It was time to leave the nest.

Quite a production!
It hangs together, too. Worthy of the concept concept (does that make sense?). A bit of Floyd, a pinch of Oldfield, some Parsons, Moody Blues... but all Gurner. Betcha had fun! It was fun to listen to.

Thanks!
All those artists had a hand down the line as an influence. I've always enjoyed the concept of the concept album (made perfect sense) and this is the first time I've attempted something like this where it has actually hung together fairly well, so I'm happy.

...
Seems I've been running forever, but my day is done, and I'm craving brownies. The time has come. good stuff. I listened while surfing facebook, my friends and families lame comments seemed so much more interesting with a good soundtrack. Kinda made me think of Flaming Lips while I was listening in the last few minutes.

Very cool!
If I can make Facebook a little less uninteresting, I've done a day's work. :)

Been on a Flaming Lips kick lately. Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots is way up there on my list of favs and no small influence on the idea behind this one.

Glad you enjoyed it.

any song about robots
gets my attention, you sing this like a japanese rock band ,let me tell ya I stayed glued untill the end, dont know how you got such great clarity in your mix, so many outstanding synth leads in this, btw Ill take shot with that beer and maybe even a smoke ;-) you must be into the flaming lips .
around 8:44 the synth gets real interesting. Love it around the 13;00 mark you really hit that note when you sing fear you could have made a completely different song out of part 4,

all I can say is this will be listened to while Im painting!
excellent work Im glad I stuck it out!

Art Rock
Epic. There is a freedom in 20 minute songs. It enables so many more transitions, use of theme and variations, development of ideas. It's cool that you gave yourself this freedom. Like an entire film score. The idea of having a guitar play, or some other solo instrument, is a good one. Lots of nice music bed here to solo over. Cool concept.
