Wayfaring Stranger (2011)

Description
This is a remix of a 2006 song, a traditional spiritual that many others have done over the years. Hat tip to Micheal Wark for the chordal arrangement. I think this is a cleaner mix than the original. It's a great song to sing. I've been wanting to get this tune back up on my song list for a while, so finally here it is, I hope you like it.

Lyrics
I am a poor wayfaring stranger
Travelling through this world of woe
There's no sickness, no toil nor danger
In that bright land to which I go

Chorus:
Yes I'm going over Jordan
Just going, no more to roam
Only going over Jordan
Just going to my home

I know dark clouds will gather round me
I know my way is rough and steep
But golden fields lie out before me
Where all the saints their vigils keep

Chorus:
I'm going there to meet my father
I'm going there no more to roam
I'm just going over the river Jordan
I'm going over to my home

I want to wear a crown of glory
When I get home to that bright land
I want to shout Salvation's story
In concert with that blood-washed band

Chorus:
I'm going home to meet my mother
I'm going there no more to roam
I'm just going over the river Jordan
I'm going over, I'm going home

I'll soon be free from earthly trials
This body rests in the orchard's yard
I'll drop this cross of self-denial
And go singing home to my God

Chorus:
I'm going there to see my Saviour
To sing His praise for evermore
I'm just-a going over Jordan
I'm going over to my home

I'm a just a wayfaring stranger
Travelling through this world of woe
There's no sickness, no toil no danger
In that bright land to which I go

Great song
What a brilliant song this is, isn't it? Classic stuff. You make it sound lighter than other versions i've heard, but it has its own pleasant and effective ambience.

Great stuff.

sounds lighter...

As I read and sing these lyrics, I see a sure and certain faith and hope that the wayfarer possesses, lightening his load as he sojourns this world of woe. So, through it all he is not without encouragement.

thanks,
D

Nice remix of an old favorite
I can definitely hear the renewed joy in your singing here. Sweet remix, and the Wark added some nice reverb guitar. Thanks for the repost!!

Thanks RL...
I like that, "a wayfaring stranger, looking up." Nice description of the Christian life.

By the way, that's me on guitars. I used a the chord arrangement that Mike came up with back in 2006.

cheers,
D
