Description
This song is about the sad state of a lot of our little towns as they slowly fade away. Here In Iowa anyway mostly the change to mechanized farming.
Number 3 of 24 new song I have written late last year. I asked Stan if he could help with the lyrics and he came through with flying colors and made some great changes and additions.
I knew he could because he is a great songwriter! Thanks Stan!!

Watch my neighbors
Gettin' kinda old
I'm no spring chicken
So I’ve been told
I was born here
Like most whom I know well
But this town can't get
Back on track it's
Sliding down to hell.

It once was a lively
Place we were proud of
We raised our kids here
With pride and love
But something happened
Like an old cracked church bell
Our little town's
Not coming back and
Slowly gone to hell

Chorus:

Little town gone
Lost all its glory
Die-hard's hangin' on
Retelling old stories
Over and over again

Geetar Part

Sad days drag on
Like torn n' tattered gowns,
Sad tales on faces,
No one's around
They do not linger
In this town anymore
They’re all gone
Down the track and
This town ain't coming back

Chorus:

I'm just noticing this--apparently my partner was logged in listening to things here when I got on the PC and left you that comment yesterday without realizing he had not logged out (Routine #42). Anyway, sorry for the confusion Neal (and this is Michael--whew!) I'll murder him later....

Rolls along like a country road. I like the intertwined guitar parts and the rolling bass. Your vocals have a ton of character and are perfect for expressing the poignant lyric.

me either. i'm a small townie too and you capture the feeling really well. i guess i'm sooner or later going to be one of those guys hanging around telling stories. worse things could happen to a person i guess :) great tune, as always great performance and mix, the vocals really shine in this one.

Really strong song...
Another really strong combo song Neal. Your vocals have a distinctive early Neil Young twang that grows on you with every listening. Stan has come through with some fine collaborative lyrics as well. Congratulations. Regards, Peter.

little town
nice retro country folk tune. the opening riff reminded me of 'true colours'....but i soon got over that!
i like the relaxed vocal delivery but that you also put a lot of feeling into them without 'forcing' the issue. cool guitar break...love the delay effect.
the lyrics are EXCELLENT....i am very impressed. a great writing duo.

Small towns
I like visiting these small towns in Texas around where I live. But most of the attraction is the melancholy feel that it used to be a much more important and alive town.

Cool song.

Great track
It really finds its groove as it moves along - the tale gets deeper and the telling more impassioned. Nice guitar work and fine heartfelt vocals.

Sliding down to heaven
Towns. People. Sometimes I think we should prefer the old towns, the old people, for time they still afford, the space they still hold inside, the stories they hold close that still mean something and might last for more than a blink of an eye. I read that old people are actually happier than young people, despite our preconceptions on the matter. Sometimes I think the dying towns are, too.

Nice writing. Nice authentic feel.
