Description
took my daughter to the playground and realized while I was there that I could record things on my iphone. ended up banging on the big plastic slides and the rails with a stick I found and recording a shoe grinding sand into concrete. went home and made a drum kit out of it. so this song was written around the drum beat. when the tracks are soloed you can hear my wife and daughter laughing at me.

added a 808 kick, and a broken drum machine and the beat was done. then added some synths and made some loops out of synth parts I had recorded and time stretched and added a bass from the ES2 (I wanted to try out using a sine wave as a bass).

vocals were a pretty rushed affair, but they do the job. the lyrics are basically me whining cuz the wife and I were arguing on one of those days where the kids are going insane ALL DAY LONG. put the song in the APOD shared dropbox and Kevin sent me a bass track which I filtered to death. it adds to the overall rhythm of the track, and you can hear it soloed during the break.
Sophie loves this song because she did a lot of the banging when I sampled the playground.

Music is everywhere and this proves it! Great story! So cool that Sophie played a part. She won't forget it I bet. It's great to watch children play and learn at the same time. Very inspiring! I'm going kayaking with my wife this morning. I wonder what I could record with my iPhone.

thanks
yeah, I think the best part of being a parent is watching them learn things. If you go kayaking, I bet you can get some really neat sounds by banging on the kayak while it moves through the water. I picture as the water level changes the tone of your kayak drum would change too. record it. and send it to me please.

I lve your Motown bass riff driving this Michael
Can't say I actually recall what I might have done - but I'll take your word for it if you say I'm in there. Am I that duck quack? The drum kit sounds great - and the vocals are excellent - even if rushed.

ha
i didn't even think of Motown, but you're totally right. and I don't think you sound like a duck. you're the scratchy counter rhythm. I think I want to recycle that bass line as well (after mid terms of course).

Very creative use of natural sounds, Michael
This really is a family affair you've got going here, what with you daughter, wife, and you adding to the sound bed. The bass sound very good as do the drums.

Very cool, I like it a lot. Thanks for leading the way and showing us how to get sounds from the natural world into our music.

inventive
that kit is just good ol' ingenuity. some right-brained, out the box thinking in action. put it with your melody, and you've got another michael2 classic.

thanks man. I have been really into beats, percussion, and rhythm in general lately (as opposed to my last obsession melody). glad you liked. i think after I get a few more of these kits together I will post them somewhere for people to use. thanks for the kind words.

nothing better than finding inspiration where ever you are, now thats a great sounding slide, really enjoyed the fresh vocals on this even if there was an argument that inspired the singing, another great one!

Killer killer process description. Love it. Has an urgency and nervousness to the track, the rush beat, counterbalanced with the lazy laid back mellow vocals. I think my favorite part is the shoe-on-gravel sound!

the shoe on gravel sound is my fave, I will need to use that sound again (but without the slides). thanks so much for listening (and paying attention), glad you stopped by.

It's funny as I thought of you when I did this. Thought it would maybe better for a hip hop sing versus a pop tune

I'd love to see the creative canvass you see everyday. You seem to so effortlessly grab tidbits and elements of different sounds and rhythms and morph them into great songs. Nicely done.

Sounds good. Reminds me of a future-music video I have with Imogen Heap showing how she used the lighting panel in her studio among other things to record percussion. A good Idea.

brilliant
love the originality and carefree, creative energy in this song. amazing how you come up with these different concepts and make them work. the mix is balanced and i'm glad you're giving us a backdrop to the song - and the happy, upbeat percussion is an interesting contrast to your vocals. cool stuff.

Squishier
You're turning into Paul Simon, percussive-wise. Except its squishier sounding! He records stuff from all over the place and makes rhythms tracks from them. Drives his live band crazy, as they try to figure out how to make a touring version of his songs. A nice problem to have, no?

Again, I dig the moodiness, transparent simplicity, clarity, conceptual focus. I'm a fan.
