Description
A few weeks ago I attended the memorial service for friend and artist Alan Uglow. I came home and created this little piece in his name. Returned to it last night thinking I would develop it some more and found that I couldn't bring myself to change anything. It is what it is - from that day.
Alan was a wonderful man with a wry sense of humor - a keen eye - and a strong allegiance to Chelsea - as in UK football.

Hmmmm
Chelski...
Bud, nice dedication. Cool sounds and droning atmosphere. Has an ambient feel and the keys have an almost "churchish" verb which I can't help linking to your memorial story.
Really cool and sorry for the loss of your friend.
bud said 2154 days ago (May 5th, 2011)
Thanks Ted
Alan was a major Chelsea fan - had a club here in NY and never missed a match. Hadn't thought about the church organ connection - but you're right.

You were feeling sad
and you made this to lighten your burden. It has a quiet strength and reverence. I think you made a piece that would work for a memorial for group of people or for the dedication of a monument or the opening of another solemn occasion. You put all your love and admiration into it and so it is emotionally moving. Sorry about losing your friend. He must have been a great guy. Thanks.

church organ thing
I hear that, too

This is solemn, in memory - but it's not dreadful as a traditional funeral piece can be; there is an uplifting chord change that is positive

Sorry to hear of the loss of your friend, bud

You know what's cool?
You didn't fiddle with it and you brought art to it. It's a feeling you have created here. You did something special. I totally was enthralled and entranced. Freaking enjoyed and twice listen to in a row. DL'd

While seeming simple in structure, there is something strangely progressive about this. Kind of a Pink Floyd piece for the modern world.

Very nice tribute song. This may be a first. I am commenting while I am listening to your tune on An iPhone. I am testing mark's macjam app. This has always been something that couldn't be done due to the player taking over. My apologies as this isn't about me. This is a great song Bud. on the subway ride home. Imported the midi and tweaked it to create more dissonance - but the bot did allow me to experiment with new chord forms.

well, nobody's perfect:)

this is the kind of tune that i know means more to the artist than anyone listening and i love that, because that's how it should be. thanks for introducing me to alan uglow, he's my kind of painter but i have to admit that i didn't know of him prior to reading his obituary. you have a rich circle of friends dude.

If you hadn't written a description I think I'd still have sensed an intense powerful emotion within. Kudo's for running with it as is. Its a snapshot, tweaks and all. It conveys a complex set of feelings. Sorry to go all freud on you. I liked it.

This develops...
...like a life.
What a wonderful tribute to your friend. No doubt he's smiling at the creation of a piece of music in his name. I only wish this were a little longer. But you made the wise choice to keep things as you originally heard them on the day of the memorial service. ... You've done something special with the understatement here and more is said that way, perhaps, than if you did a huge production number. ...
