Description
This is an Irish reel that the violinist in my band (Clan Dragonas) wrote for 2 violins.
I arranged the electric guitar, bass, and drums to accompany her awesome piece.

We are gonna record a live version on May 29th, so would appreciate any helpful suggestions before we go into the studio.

Cheers,
John

Lovely
Can't praise this too highly. Greatly enjoyed. Love a reel when it is evocative and in a minor key (am i right?) The mystery whirls round like fiery ghosts among the dance. Wonderful stuff.

Yeah, some of the parts are in major key and then back to minor. :)
Thank you!

You made my day.
I love your band and your Celtic pieces more than anything. I doubt you can improve on perfection. How do you feel about yelling, "Hey!" at the end? :) Thanks.

Wonderful, rollicking tune
Hi John. Wonderful, rollicking tune. The interplay between the violins is fantastic. Probably my only suggestion would be that the guitar and drums could be just slightly less prominent in the mix and the right violin needs to come up just a fraction? Just a thought. Really enjoyed this. Regards, Peter.

Yep
Took a listen, and you are absolutely right about the mix and panning.
I'll tweak it when we record the violins and eventually repost it on here.
Thanks for lending your good ears!

Oh ya!
Nicely done, and with a whole load of authentic feel to it. Your choice of drum style with the off beats gives it a bit of a Pogues feel to the piece. Lots of energy here.

Here are a few stylistic comments, which means that my taste is only one point of view (and often not universal !! :)

Guitar strums on the beat and the walking figure around 00:34 and again at 1:13 seem overpowering to my ears - the melody gets lost. Have you thought of adding in an acoustic guitar as well that could have an interesting strum pattern to compliment the leads? Also, and this gets really really taste related, I'd love to hear a bodhran here too - along with the drum track of course - maybe starting at 1:49. The fast off-beat drums at 2:16 to 2:23 seem to compete with the rhythm of the leads and give the overall feel a kind of hectic quality. Interestingly after that point they add energy to the piece supportively, even though they are playing a similar pattern, just a bit ahead in time.

There are a ton of great musical choices you've made throughout which are well done. Opening guitar strums to act like a drone and a stinger for example.

Kudos to you both! This is a piece I look forward to hearing when you finish your final cut.

Cheers,
Doug
