Description
This one comes with a 'depressive material' warning, folks! It's how i feel about some fundamental things that i can't change about myself, though there is nowhere beyond the reach of love, as i hope the lyrics just about make clear!

Remember i did warn you!

Cheers now

Lyrics
I Cannot Get Out

When i was in prison,
When i was confined,
Fettered by passion,
Enslaved by desire,
When i was in prison,
With chains in my heart,
You did not desert me,
Though i don’t know why,
No i don’t know why,

Cos i’m still encumbered,
Within these sad walls,
Forced to do labour,
In hell’s barren halls,
But though i’m in prison,
With death all about,
You still come to free me,
Though i cannot get out,
No, i cannot get out.

I cannot get out
Excellent song Marc. The lyrics are mind blowing. Your lyrics are a bit like a modern day Dylan. Such great tone in the guitar aswell. Well done

Personal...
Hey Marc, I love the incongruity of the 'depressive material' warning and the 'Cheers now' salutation :-)

The song is personal and heartfelt and I enjoyed the performance. Hang in there. You never know what good might befall you just round the corner. Take care, Peter.

Ha!
'Hoisted on his own petard' is the nautical expression, i believe!

Cheers for listening!

I Cannot Get Out
Pretty melody and guitar sounds great. I'm puzzled about why the singer is in prison in the first place though. You know but you have to tell us!

Hi Dave!
Thanks so much for the listen.

The prison is a metaphorical one, i am glad to say! It represents the restrictions inherent in the matter of being human, of which i have many i am not proud of!

Cheers now

Well if the protagonist is a prisoner of his own making that makes it all the more puzzling, and that much more interesting to hear an explanation. That might be a direction to develop the song, although sometimes metaphorical bars are harder to dissolve then the steel ones.

You're right
it's not the most cheerful song but you've still done it very well. An effective arrangement that really allows the lyrics and vocals to come through.

Cheers

Hi Dick!
Thanks for taking a dark detour and leaving a comment! ;-)

i don't know whether these sort of very personal songs are right for posting on a site like this sometimes. After all, people have enough of this sort of gloom as it is and music is supposed to get you out of it.

That said, i find making a song about something very therapeutic, and there is something soothing and warm about this song, and i think it has a beauty of its own which is good to share, perhaps.

Cheers now

Beautifully done
Listening to this on a day like today (Dark and cloudy) really REALLY put the exclamation point on the evening!

Beautifully done, great lyrics. I enjoyed the ending, with the trumpet synth, really great end on such a sad note. Really clean sound throughout.

Cloudy!
Thanks, man! Really encouraging comment. i knew the song was unlikely to do very well, though MacJammers are always surprising me!

Hope the sun is out now!
