You Think You Got the Blues

Get Flash to see this player.

Description
A re-mix from 4yrs ago and thanks to Ozone it's more 'in your face' than it was before. It's still relevant in it's subject and maybe it's in the wrong Genre'. I don't know, but the song is about how lucky some of us are even when things look bad for us, compared to others throughout the world. We think we've got 'The Blues' when we feel sad, but looking at online pics to illustrate this song I was left with a lump in my throat at some of the images. Out of respect and conscience for those in a lot of the images, I couldn't use them just for the purpose of illustrating a song on MJ, even though they depicted what I'm aiming at. I think you'll all know what I mean by that; they were too too moving.

Lyrics
Chorus
Blues... so you' got the blues,
Yeah! Just walk a mile, in someone else's shoes,
Then tell me who you'd choose to be,
them or you.
You got the blues.

Verse.
Not everyone gets the Blues from love gone wrong.
Not everyone finds a way to put his pain into a song.
People fight and people love,
Pray for help from up above,
and then when it's settled down, What've you we got?
You've got the Blues.. yeah yeah it's called the blues
It's called the blues.... Ahh! yes so sad.. it's called the blues.
Chorus
Ha! Ya' think you got the blues
Just walk a mile in someone else's shoes
Then tell me who you'd choose to be,
Them or you... they' got the blues.

Verse
See the people on the TV Show, shufflin' barefoot wherever they go.
See the people with no food.. Do you think they're in a happy mood?
All their sufferin' all their pain... It's called the blues.
The blues.. you can't choose...
They've all got the blue-ues.

The blues.. ad lib.
Just walk a mile... walk a mile in someone else's shoes,
Then tell me who you think has got,
Really got the blues... the blues... choose
OOh they all got the blues... they got the blues,
Yea, yea, yea, they all got the blues
Not everyone gets the blues from love gone wrong,
Not everyone finds a way to put his pain into a song,
Pain pain... blues, blues, Blue-ues.

really like how this grooves. felt like i was in 7th heaven with those chords. pretty heavy tune, man. You'll have to forgive me, but i can hear some REALLy heavy driving guitars in this tune...along with a *screaming* harp.

I remember this one!
I can hear that you are becoming proficient with Ozone - it's a nice new mix/master here Maurice, and the original material is of course still very well conceived and delivered (diggin' that hot guitar underlying your vocal). Your open perspective on life is one that could be usefully shared by most of us in the western world.

Thanks for reposting this newly polished gem!

Cheers,
Doug

Steal guitar vocals
That unusual parallel harmony (created by a plugin? it's so perfect) gives the vocals this steal guitar bendy electronic feel that is really interesting. Makes it sound even more southern than it would otherwise, in my ears. I like the age in your voice, it adds to the authenticity needed to project the blues vibe.

Maurice...
you sing so very well and sell your songs with that special conviction you put into your vocals--this is a perfect example of that at work (not to mention, the song itself is great!) I'm going out later to look for a "steal guitar". Thanks again Maurice--and take care now, Michael

Words...words.
I am always drawn to your words, Maurice. You have again nailed a message that is worth hearing, and you've done it in such a funky way with that thumping bass and well-conceived vocals. It is rare to hear such concise music/lyrics that just get the message across without anything other than the basic elements you start out with at the top. AND...your voice sounds terrific here. Those octaves are all in tune and precise. Just a nice arrangement all the way around.

wow
might have to look into Ozone, sounds so clear and present. I really like that vocal sound; almost sounds like a slide guitar part. how in the world did you do that? really neat effect. besides the effect, you're voice sounds totally right for the song.

as for human suffering: it's complete subjective and everyones pain is real to them, but most of us have no idea what real suffering is (thank goodness).

Thanks
for those words, lots of wisdom. It is easy to forget that we live in a place that is better. What would be really bad if they had to walk in nothing but poor surroundings and look up and see a big wealthy mansion and know they can't ever get any of that. That is really dangling a bluesy carrot!

There must be visitors to their villiages that drive expensive cars checking out miserable they are with pity like zoo attendee's.That really must "pi$$" them off. Some of the older wiser tribes members must see alot in what visits their villiages, things we just don't understand or comprehend.

Thanks for the reminder Maurice! Nice tune!

Mo' style in abundance
Hi Maurice. The mix had immediate impact and then the altered, layered vocals kicked in and things stepped up a notch again. Like the sentiment of the lyrics too. A bit different from your recent offerings but there is no mistaking the Mo' style. Take care, Peter.

you think
hey maurice...you seem to be morphing into other genres more and more. not a big fan of blues....but this has so much more going on. love that thing you've got going on with your voice. it's like you're singing through the entire boots collection of combs....with izal toilet paper hanging over the tines. toe tapping, head nodding beat....great choice on the percussion. are you doing everything on this? very impressive creation....interesting how it sounds so upbeat whilst dealing with depressing subject matter.

So-o-o
You've tried the comb and paper thing have you Julian? LOL.... I know what you mean, but it's just the voice transformer in GB. I've always traversed the genres....it comes from travelling around the halls and clubs having to please so many types and ages of people.... I suppose I'm just a musical gypsy at heart.
I'm doing everything on midi, which is including guitar sounds, but the percussion is/are loops. Glad you liked it Julian Thank you kindly for dropping by, regards M
