Description
Over in the forums things sometimes get posted and argued about that, as many have noted, can be an aggravating distraction from the music on this site. Most certainly, I have at times contributed to that . Any way, here is a song from 2006 (a Remix opportunity to repost another deleted tune) that at the time was my musical response to the frustration I was feeling... and I know others have also felt.

All the music is from LOOPS... something I purposed to do and always had wanted to do in a song... to put together a music bed with loops that sounded like a band... even if not quite! And the genre... FUNK... yeah I know, not my style here at MJ... but I did grow up on James Brown and Sly! And not to forget the band I was with in the late sixties and early seventies, The Twilights. So........

Lyrics
Bring It Up...

Verse 1:
Don't care about your jivin' wind
Don't care about your smack
Don't like it when you slam the man,
Doing it behind his back.

Don't care about your high falutin'
Don't care about your claims
You really think you're all of that?
Get back, better check your game.

Refrain:
Let me catch some harmonizing
Throw me some sweet tone
'Bout time you put it in a song
Get back, now bring it home.

Verse 2:
Don't care about no endless spiel
It's all a tired rant
Pontificate? Reciprocate!
Sometimes I think you can't

Beating on your brother
Don't care at all for this
Invective is infective
All you serving up is Diss

Refrain

Verse 3:
Patronizing, scandalizing
Slagging your only tool?
High-handed low end haughtiness
Whatcha take me for a fool?

Don't care about that wieldy axe
It's something just to grind
Lay it down, then pick it up
And see what you might find.

Bring It Up (in a song)
Cool track. The groove is hot as is your choice of loops. The organ is very sweet. But the vocal and melody are what really make this a winner! I like the harmonies at 3:56.

Thanks, Andrew...
I thought the music bed was the star here... nice to know you liked the vocals. The ending harmony part was the most work... intended to be the icing on the (hopefully) cake!

Pontificate..
Great freakin' word man! Sorry, I'm a word junkie. This is such a great song with an (all-so-true) message. Diggin' the track, vocals are great too.

Heheh... words -
I actually was using a thesaurus and a "slang" dictionary while writing the lyrics. Glad to know you liked this one.

Hey jd...
Maybe that's why the name of James Brown's backup vocal band was "The Famous Flames"!
Thanks much.

Paul Simon does James Brown
I can see you moving, doing those James Brown moves, while singing with you headphones on. I dig the earnest R&B, the vocal articulations and pronunciations you use. Kind of like how Paul Simon gets down with his story songs. 50 Ways to do R&B. Fun track. Very enjoyable loop experiment.

doing the "moves"...
Hey Tobin-
Well, if you can see me doing the moves, then you're laughing. A dancer I am not. ;-) Your comments are sweet to read. Any time one's tune can be mentioned favorably in the same sentence with Paul Simon's name... well, 'nuf said... heheh.

best to you,
Jack

Hey Dave...
I'm glad to know you think the track works. Funny, doing all loops was as much, if not more, work than doing live instrument takes... a lot of experimenting and cutting and pasting.
Thanks,
Jack

Now this...
...reminded me somehow of the Manhattan Transfer (idols o'mine) might sound if they ever performed in the funk idiom. You have to love this--I certainly do! Thanks for the great music Jack! Michael

Well, make that two of us who really dig Manhattan Transfer. I started listening to them back in the late seventies! No matter what genre, they can sell a song like it is their own specialty. So, thanks for graciously connecting this little effort of mine with them.

james brown...
...indeed. as obit has sez from time to time ...."Gimme some Funk!" getting out of one's comfort zone is a great thing sometimes. Loops are just pieces. If you an't a mechanic you probably won't build a high performance engine .... could happen but probably not. Ya got all the right session guys backin you and this is totally a great track! Keep the recycled goodness coming Jack ... wow! Downloaded.

comfort zone....
... No kidding! I had to make sure no one was around when I recorded the vocals... It would have been, "what has happened to him?" I really felt like I was mimic-ing or faking the vocal - so not me. I'm glad to know you dig it. And there is some more old tunes to be reposted. Seems like all I've got of late.

Thanks-
