Description
I'm wondering if there are any drummers here on macjams who might like to add a drum part.... I'm putting this song on my album coming out in August, so it's a kind of a time pressing idea... but thought I'd try. Anyway any drummer interested in collaborating, message me! I can give you the details.

Feedback on the song is also welcome. Can you tell I was really sick when I recorded this?

me- lyrics, vocals, piano
todd shelar- guitar
ralph lillie- recording (but this is NOT mixed yet by us)

Lyrics
Heart Whaling (fall 2010)

"Hold your own," said the subtle wind
who could not let me touch
it grows and simmers from command's beyond our clutch.
the sun keeps on with a focused gaze
burning like laughter that i feel this way
i'm peeling coats off, do i ask too much?

our talk grows softer.... i fear myself some fool.
the sun grows hotter.... but we remain cool.

bolstering my stance i flag down speech through a gust
of confound- is where i'm standing far from where i stand to you...
the sun keeps on with her ruthless gaze
burning like laughter that i feel this way
i'm shouting names out, feeling for what's true...
but you cannot capture wind, they say, so i let go..
and we go slow.

am i to get swept away or stay?
i'm glued to the center by what i can't hold at bay:
my love, the sun, my love, the sun, my love, the sun
my love, the heat and i are one

well you cannot capture wind, they say...
did it take you up and away?

Not sure it needs drums...
You've got a nice, moody, angsty folk feel going on here, and it works for sure. Some strings, perhaps, some other organic instrumentation to ornament it, and maybe a bass to give the groove just the slight push it wants; I think drums might be overkill for the deep tenderness being portrayed... Cool tune!

Thanks for this comment Llarion- I think your idea that it would be overkill is a good one. Yeah maybe I'll experiment with some organic percussion in a few places. thanks for listening!

Very nice melody
Keys and strings sound great together. This song, in it's current simplicity, is very enjoyable, but I can see where further development would pay off. Nice vocals too. Terry

Thanks Terry! I think it's always a fine line between overworking something or leaving something too bare. Thanks for listening!

Hi Rayelise. Your vocals are great, with the hint of fragility adding interest and character. The poetic lyrics also give the song a folk vibe. I think some bass might add solidity to the mix but the song can hold its own without drums. Just my thoughts, though. Enjoyed. Kind regards, Peter.

Very nice. I really like it with guitar and piano, The only thing I might do is add a bass guitar but it works well as is. Cool voice. Enjoyed this very much.

Beautiful song, to echo other thoughts the song really does hold up by itself, a bassline would definitely help, I wouldnt opt for drums myself as you will lose the feel though some conga and light percussion may come across well (thinking tambourine and maracas!). Good song though well done

Thanks Neil, I think I will experiment with light percussion in places. tambourine is an interesting suggestion... Thanks for listening!

hold your own
Great arrangement on them keys, the guitar add nice depth to this, I like how you hold your voice when you sing one, If your going to add drums then some bass would work really well. I do like it this way!

I like your vocals, and the piano line is really pretty. I agree with the others; the song's arrangement works as is but some light percussion and subtle bass could help.

Thanks Dave, wow it seems pretty unanimous that full drums aren't warranted in this song. Agree with light percussion. THanks for listening!
